Thanks Tijuana Taxi, I was about to suggest Sapphire and Steel.
I'd love to see Neverwhere done properly, with a real budget, and proper monsters, not shonky wobbly looking ones. Neil has hinted that it may happen.
Monkey Dust and from the 70's Days Of Hope --both been politically gagged in our wonderfully free democracy 🙄
Champion the wonder horse
Banana splits
Mary, mongo and midge
Plus 1 for Banana Splits, but what the hell was it about, was everyone on drugs?
The young persons guide to becoming a rock star
That was ace!
Also, Vic and bob in catterick the Mary Whitehouse Experience and Pugwall.
Managed to find someone selling moody DVD copies of The Mary whitehouse Experience a couple of years ago, still brilliant.
Edit, gutted they didn't make more Dirk Gently as well
+1 for This Life
Managed to find someone selling moody DVD copies of The Mary whitehouse Experience a couple of years ago, still brilliant.
They never did do a proper realise on DVD which is a shame, but most of it is on youtube now, in fact I think I will go and watch some history.
I don't think Ripping Yarns has ever been repeated. I did have it on DVD, but it went missing when I moved to Germany 🙁
+1 Monkey Dust
Help, with Paul Whitehouse and Chris Langham. Superb series.
Another for Monkey Dust. Probably the most bleakly funny comedy I have seen. Too close to the bone, and very prophetic.
Monkey dust is great especially this one.
Brond, Channel 4, late 80s..
The Alan cumming/Forbes Masson show was called "the high life" I once did a panto loosely based on the same plot as one of the episodes. I say plot...
Jamie and the magic torch.
+1 for Sapphire and Steel - loved it!
Not a series, but does anyone remember Artemis 81? Very strange film with Sting in it and filmed partly in North Wales as I recall.
I think A Very Peculiar Practice is available on DVD but not sure.
Firefly
"Tomorrow People" reboot - coming to Ch4 ?
Proper scary when I were a lad.
Anyone remember an old Lynda La Plante drama called Civvies. Had brothers in arms as the theme tune?
I was really, really looking forward to it, and I thought it was bobbins, a real disappointment.
+1 for all the shouts for MASH, though - bought the box set and am splowly getting through them, you can turn the laughter track off which makes it much, much funnier. 🙂
Wasn't Jamie and the magic torch repeated over and over again?
Happy days, after posting on this thread the mrs got me big and bob in catterick for Christmas. Didn't even know they'd released it 😀
Unfortunately it probably means she's spying on me 😡
Citizen Smith.
Fox, with Ray Winstone and Larry Lamb amongst others. 1980, only one series.
Not looked at five pages, but for me it will always be 'Big Jim and the Figaro Club'
Never ever seen it repeated.
I found Chelmsford 123 on 4OD! 😀
..... Also Black Books!
Rich man Poor man
Roots
Popeye
Coupling
The New Statesman
and more recently, Campus
Dave Allen. Best comedian bar Billy Connelly. Never on tv.
Green Wing is on 4OD under collections tab. My favourite tv series of all time.
Anyone remember "packet of three" with Frank Skinner, Jenny Eclair and Henry Normal?
Another favourite of my late teenage years was "Nightingales" with Robert Lindsay, David Threlfall, James Ellis.
- "Is there anybody there? There's nobody here but us chickens!"
Classic.
Surprisingly, the tv series actually came first and was then adapted into a book. It was excellent though and would love to see it again. It has recently been made into a radio series and is on radio 4 this Christmas.
Neil Gaiman didn't think so. The reason he wrote the book was because he felt the BBC adaptation of his screenplay was awful.
+1 for MASH being the greatest tv show ever devised, although it is repeated a lot and therefore doesn't fit into this thread.
Plebs and 15 Stories.
Both utter underated classics.
Great thread - together with the childhood food thread, I'm on a right nostalgia trip.
Anyhoo, Brandon Chase by BB was serialised when I was a kid and it was easily the best kid's programme on the telly. Saw a guy selling it on a dodgy website but trialled a series of MR James adaptations which turned up fine - went back for Brandon Chase and the website had vanished 🙁
La Cabina
