Anyone use this?

I was hoping to use it to help plan a room but i find that it doesnt stay constrained? I have the plugin driving dimensions, but when i draw a rectangle and dimension it from a wall, then change this dimension for example the rectangle loses its shape instead of moving closer or further away..

anyone got any tips?!

Scotia,

I used Sketchup to example out the extension to my house and also included the garden layout as well. No exact stuff, but good representations. I found that it all didn't quite work the way I wanted and sometimes a bit counter intuitive.

How to you mean dimension it away from a wall?

Is the rectangle a seperate object to the wall? or is the rectangle drawn on the wall and you are pulling the rectanlge out from the wall using the push pull tool.

fisha, the rectangle is indeed a seperate object, i have the wall as a large rectangle and the objects in the room as shapes which i'd dimensioned and am 'placing' them in the room if you like.

Obviously its not as powerful or the same as solidworks but i left the work laptop at work this wknd..

i just thought it'd be nice and fast to change the layout, easier to work with than paper, pencil i thought (tho thnks brant for the useful tip)

Stick with it and it will be the most rewarding thing you have done in a while.

The keys are:
Group stuff a lot, otherwise you will find everything sticks together
Orbit (mouse wheel click/drag) and zoom (mouse wheel) a lot. Get used to how to manipulate the view

If you have any questions let me know, I've been using it since beta

We use it a lot at work for complex models. I can ask the bright going things tomorrow for some tips if you want.

also, learn the layers stuff, that way you can have the wall on one layer, and the objects on another. that means you can only edit one layer at a time and not accidently select stuff.
