I'm used to working in a big office where we had dozens of various charts and fans of colours. Now I'm freelance I don't have that luxury. Just looked up the price of RAL books, lucky I was sitting down. Any good sources? Anywhere that might be free and easy with sample books?

Do you still have keys to your old office? 🙂

I got a RAL swatch book off Interpon once, when I needed some sample PPC pieces. Or you could get a RAL K7 fan off ebay for less than a tenner.

Pantone books are nowhere near as expensive as RAL ones. Mind you... neither are gold-plated unicorns

Pantone is no use if you are working in RAL though. If you just want a file of example colours, nip down to B and Q and steal a handful of the cards from the deco aisle.

If you just want some colour swatches then phone up some (sign making) vinyl suppliers and ask for some swatches. You might have to pretend you're actually going to buy something as they've got a bit stingier in recent years.
