So many amazing songs.
Was lucky enough to see him in concert. Nearly blubbed when he did Honey Come Back.
Let's not forget True Grit either.

Was lucky enough to see him on his final tour. Massive part of our diverse family playlist as a child and his music stayed with me.

Thanks for the memories Glen. Farewell.

Proper inheritance stuff this for me. My dad was a big fan so there were always albums of his hanging around at home when I was a kid. Rhinestone Cowboy was the first song (not incl school stuff) that I knew off by heart from singing it with my folkst - still get a lump in my throats when I hear it now. And can still sing along to every word.

I remember spending a thanksgiving in Houston - and getting to walk along Galveston beach - a special moment - and one my dad had never got to experience even though he loved the song - so I did it for him. A true great. His album of covers was pretty good too.

A hugely talented guitar player, and not a bad crowd to play to. Skip to 1:25 if you just want to hear his guitar playing. Edit - right video now

We had a boss at the first place I worked who we nicknamed Galv, because he always walked around whistling Galveston.

RIP

RIP Glenn. I love his stuff!

As Billy Connelly once said though, 'where I come from, Glen Campbell's a place'. ๐Ÿ™

Was reading about his last album - done as a farewell as he had Alzheimers and knew he wasn't long for the world. Some fond memories of my old man blasting out tunes back in the 70s. A rare country voice that I really liked.

As Billy Connelly once said though, 'where I come from, Glen Campbell's a place'.
Where Billy Connolly comes from, Glen Campbell presented a childrens TV show.

Love that clip Shinton. I have watched it a few times before and it's just as good each time.

Proper entertainer. Despite being mid-forties, I took a random punt a few years ago to see him in York. He was starting to suffer then but was performing with his family who helped him through between songs. When he was singing and playing he was superb and I was so glad I went.

Love that Galveston late instrumental.

Proper RIP.

Trust me DD it was brilliant. His humour and sheer talent shone though. His humour particularly touching as he was able to be very self-deprecating about his condition. Although he lost his place whilst talking a few times, once he was singing and playing he was just so, so good.

Was reading about his last album - done as a farewell as he had Alzheimers and knew he wasn't long for the world

I remember hearing the interviews he did over here at the time on the radio. He had his wife (I think...maybe daughter...can't remember) to help as the symptoms were beginning to become apparent. Pretty poignant stuff - a legend facing up to his mortality.

I've just seen this pop up on Flipboard, and while it's not unexpected, I'm still so very sad that it's happened, and so very sad for his family and friends.
He was a remarkable singer, and a superb musician, which I think tends to get rather overlooked, I remember seeing him on TV many years ago, playing jazz guitar, and I was stunned, I knew him as a singer, although in a style that I didn't appreciate then as much as I do now, and I completely reversed my opinion of him.
Wichita Lineman is a song I never get tired of hearing, and I love Galveston as well.
I heard Radio 2 play a song from his latest album this morning, possibly around the time of his passing, by a strange coincidence, and it brought home just how much he's going to be missed.
RIP Glen. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

One of my all-time favourite singer-songwriters wrote a song that is both influenced by, and a tribute to Witchita Lineman, Listen for the detuned guitar part at around 1'55", and the little quote from it.

Well it's sad he's gone but we are all getting older. What a legacy of brilliant songs to celebrate!

@shinton, well that bit of YouTube brought a spec of dust into the eye.

I'm already grinding my teeth when Lineman starts...I like it well enough, but I've realised it's like eating cake, after a while you've had enough...

They had Carol Kaye on Radio 4 this morning talking about his session guitar days. He liked to play Django Rheinhardt stuff for fun. Sacha Distel is another top notch guitarist stuck with a MOR reputation.

Reminds me of car journeys as a kid, then an appreciation of his music when you get past the idea of liking the same stuff your parents did. I watched the documentary of his last tour,it was so sad.

My mum was a fan so often had him on at home. Where's the playground Suzie? Everyday housewife. Honey come back. Too many to list. Really nice songs from a happy childhood.

RIP. Fond memories of him, another of my parents favourite artists so was always hearing his music as a kid. I didn't realise he was such a prolific session musician till I saw the TV pieces on his death

One my favourites which I try and play on the guitar

an interview with Alice Cooper popped up on youtube (contains adverts and is a little slow)....
....was also surprised to learn that as a session guitarist (who couldn't read music) played on many of the Beach Boys hits including Good Vibrations and played on the Monkees hits
