not with penalties like that. have they had coaching from messrs Waddle, Batty & Southgate?

I was going to include Pearce but he made up for it against Spain in Euro '96

Great save by Uruguay, shame it wasn't by the goalie.

Gutted for Ghana.

They really wanted it. Where were the England players on the floor weeping/inconsolable?

So. It looks like Germany 😀

penalty goal needed I think like a penalty try in rugby as that ball was clearly going in and Suarez took one for the team(which in that situation most people would have done)

In fairness Ghana deserved to win - England didn't. So there was less to be upset about.

I don't think anyone minds their team losing if they give a gutsy passionate performance .Our lot didn't several other defeated teams have

Agree with E64, the fact that something that unfair can happen within the framework of the rules just isn't right

Aye Ghana dared to dream. They had that hope that maybe it might be theirs with the hardwork that they were putting in with old 'favourites' not bothering. 🙁

Don't know how 'unfair' it was, the guy sacrificed himself for the team, it was like chess or something 😀

I thought it was a genius move, the fact that Ghana missed the ensuing penalty was vindication for the gamble the guy took.

my thoughts exactly, its a blight on the game, as is that dreadful ball they are using.

Uruguay here too and so far I have won £10.

Watched the game too, well the extra time as what at work was good fun for once and of course it had the compulsory scandal with that spectacular dive. The commentators on five live predicated that Ghana would use that trick.

It was unfair because Uraguay gained an advantage by breaking the rules. It wasnt a tackle that stopped a goal-scoring opportunity, it was a handball on the line that stopped a definite goal, and because of the timing they didnt have to play with 10 men at all. Effectivly it pays in the last minute of ET facing a set piece to get all 11 players to lut some gloves on and stand between the posts.

Im not saying the rules weren't followed, rather that the rules that are in place allowed Uruguay through in a very unsporting way

Ghana had every chance to win, and they fluffed it. Too bad.

This is the World Cup, you miss penalties in extra time, and you'll get knocked out! Everything else is just (England-style) excuses.

Ghana wuzzn't robbed, they just didn't take their chances.

From the replays it looked as easy for Suarez to head the thing as to handle it

His coach defended him Thierry Henry style by saying it was 'instinctive'.

Both as bad as each other imo, Ghana should have had a penalty awarded against them in normal time. Karma's a bitch. Was Suarez supposed to just watch it go past?

Uruguay have been fantastic to watch throughout the tournament, Forlan is just awesome.

All true of course but then you do have Uruguay in the sweepstake!!

The thing is the ball WAS going in
but you MAY score a penalty

so in a way you are punished because a definate is turned into a probable

The free kick that lead to the hand ball was awarded for a dive though.

I do but a handball is a handball so the penalty was fair like I said. Even though the freekick that put the ball there was a bit ambiguous. **** me cna't believe I'm in a football thread I don't like the game.

Ambiguous? He was about 5 yards from the player that 'fouled' him!

Really enjoying Germany now, 3-0 and still looking for another.
