MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Every so often I get a download from this site that I haven't agreed to or asked for.
Today it is called _qjH-RcG It is described as "Firefox html document 0 bytes"
Anyone else? What is it, anyone know. Up to now I've just deleted it but it doesn't seem good to be happening.
----
[Mod] Tech have been alerted and apologies for the inconvenience.
It's most likely coming from the embedded adverts.
Make a note of which ones are present when you get the download happening and messages the mods - they may be able to red flag them.
I suspect you are right. The difficulty will be knowing which of the myriad of ads displayed on the page is culprit (everchanging as well) and and also the slight delay in seeing the message that a download has occured and the possility of having changed the page before noticing.
I reported your post so it will be passed up the line.
messages the mods – they may be able to red flag them.
The moderators can't do any such thing. But they can - and seemingly now, have - passed your report on to those who can.
Also, it's probably worth a quick healthcheck of your own system. Clear down the Internet cache, make sure your software is up to date, try a different browser to see if the problem persists.
What AV are you using?
@scotroutes .... thanks, much appreciate quick reaction.
I'm using Windows 11 and hence Microsoft Defender. I've run scan and all seems good.
Just to confirm. It's just done it again.
Just to highlight that I'm still having the same problem. I followed up with an email to the "Moderators" and received an email on 5th July asking for more info. I immediately replied to that...... since then zilch, nothing despite me chasing.
Not good.
Pretty bad value for money, eh?
There's a Help button, bottom left corner of every page on the site which will direct your query to the right people. Again, there's nothing Moderators can do other than forward it to Tech on your behalf.
People still use Firefox? 😁 Gecko has always been a little idiosyncratic. Unless it's actively hostile I can't imagine it being a huge priority to investigate a mild irritant which affects at most, what, 3% of users? Your complaint is likely now on their bug / feature request tracker and it's likely quite a ways down a list covering their to-do for the next two years.
If I were you I'd switch to something Blink-based, which for most practical purposes is every other browser aside from Safari and all iOS browsers (which perversely force you to use Safari's WebKit engine regardless of which browser you install). Edge is surprisingly good these days even (it only took Microsoft 30 years) aside from it really wanting you to use Bing search.
