My old S7 died a few months ago, the screen failed, so I couldn't really do the whole google/sndroid transfer thing properly, managed a lot of it, but couldn't transfer my contacts, and there's a lot of pics on there that I never got either - ones that were in folders.
Tried connecting to laptop, but it doesn't show up, even though the phone's lit up as if connected. Am I done for?.
it sounds like it's connecting and using USB for power rather than data transfer and I'm not sure yo you can change that with the screen not working. I'm sure it's possble if you know what the right ay to do it is, but it's about googling for the right term
*shameless plug* - if you want a new S7, I've got one for sale, BNIB
Great phone, but I'm pretty sure they're no longer supported. I had 5 years good service from mine, a biblical rainstorm on the Galloway hills finally killed the screen.
Problem is, as a bare minimum you have to unlock the screen for it to show as a connected device in Windows.
I did the same to my old Lenovo P2 - broke the screen & wanted to get some stuff off it. Luckily a screen was only £40 and the repair was simple enough to do myself, but the screen on some phones can be very expensive & a nightmare job to attempt yourself.
My Pixel 4a doesn't even default to file transfer when you plug it in, just charging. I should really change that in the settings if possible! At least with a separate fingerprint sensor you have the chance to unlock the bloody thing!!
Looks like a new screen is only around £35
& there's a guide how to do it here:

If the phone is dead anyway, there's no hard trying but it depends if the pics are worth the cost & effort?
