At 51, my mid-life crisis is learning to ride a motorbike. In terms of potential injuries, this could be an entirely new ball game!

On Wednesday I took my son to a local pump track on his balance bike, I decided to chuck my skateboard in the boot as well. Turns out it's quite good fun on a skateboard and I wasn't completely useless, I managed a whole lap just pumping. It must be about 20 years since I last used my skateboard in anger.

A few days ago I dug out my old G&S Fibreflex. I've got some new bearings and bushing ready to go, as those that had been in there rusted/perished. I'll probably get around to re-gripping it as some point as well.

In my youth I decided to spray paint the underside for some reason that now escapes me. I'd like to strip it back to the original yellow fibreglass, but have no idea how to do this without damaging the board. Any suggestions?

ย

(I'm not sure why I'm bothering really, as there is nowhere to skate around here, but maybe I'll do small circles in my garage)

8 year old has just decided they want to skateboard for which I have no idea where to start so booked a beginners session for them. Then decided I can't be doing with just hanging around at the edge so I'm joining in too tomorrow morning.ย

Not 45 yet, slightly higher than average experience of crashing and breaking myself on bikes.
Used to windsurf, but never really got on with things that I didn't have anything in my hands like surfing. Used to quite enjoy surfing the felled trees as they got winched in though.

Skate park is near a trainline in case the wife needs to come down and drive us home.

its brilliantย

im still shit but i do at least once a week in the skatepark on my lunch break and while theres plenty of younguns there theres plenty of older skaters too who are happy to chat and offer tips

my eldest 2 go to a weekly skateboard club, my 14 year olds ability to get a trick after a few hours practice isnt annoying at all !!!ย

A success I think.

Now to find a board we can both use to practice on (if such a thing exists) before heading back to the indoor park again for some more pointers. School car park is probably the smoothest surface around here unless I can find an empty silage clamp or grain store.

My 8 year old daughter wanted a skateboard for Christmas, so we obliged. But I knew she would just use it to scoot round on her bum. So I got her some lessons at the local skate cafe (Board AF in littlehampton).ย

I knew she would be nervous to do it on her own, so I joined her on some 2-1 lessons. Having not stepped on a board in about 25 years, I was slightly nervous.

needless to say, I had a ball! Learning the basics and progressing along. We have another lesson next week. I might even invest in my own board!

almost landed a shove-it too!

Thread title suggests Kimbers must be getting on for 50! ย Don't worry Kimbers, you're still a relative youngster around this forum 😀

yep in November!

a new board will be on my birthday list!- one of the great things about skating is that a new deck is a good 20x cheaper than a new bike!

I've recently dug out my skateboard that I haven't regularly used for probably 20 years for use at pump tracks. I'm taking my son to various pump tracks to try and improve his cycling skills and as I can't fit my bike in the boot I've taken my skateboard instead. Turns out a skateboard on a pump track is quite good fun and a decent workout. I'd try some tricks but don't want to ruin my lovely 5.10's!
