Hey, Just wondering if anyone can give me advice on student loans.

I am from England and lived there for 22 years until 2 years ago. Since then I travelled (on a working holiday visa) in Australia, came home for 2 months, and then did the same in New Zealand.

According to some sources this prevents me from being able to get a student loan as im not longer a resident. The thing that is confusing is that im not a Australian or New Zeland resident so surely I have to be and English resident??

I have been using my Mum's address for letters and stuff, but im not planning on living there while im at uni if that makes a difference to the process.

One of my friends just advised to say I have been on a Gap year, but i dont know if that will work as im 24, so some basic arithmatic will show I didnt leave school 1 year ago!

Hope someone can help

speak to a student advisor ( students union ) at your local uni or the one you hope to get into.
they'll know the full ins and outs or will certainly know who to point you in the direction of.
and of course you're still a resident!

just lie, sorry 'be economical with the truth'

In fact, a Scottish address would be better.

Normally you must be living in England on the first day of the first academic year of your course and either:
• have been living in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for the three years immediately before this date and have ‘settled status’ in the UK (meaning you can live permanently in the UK without the Home Office placing any restrictions on how long you can stay); or

From the student finance website...
I wouldn't have thought a working holiday visa would affect your status though. You do have to give details of where your residence were for the last three years.
