I've always fancied living in the north of England, and I mean the proper north, not the midlands. But the continual winter, walls of wind, driving rain and biting insects kinda put me off the idea. Do you think we could move some of the countryside a little further south? would anyone mind? this undulating downland is for the birds, how long is this continental drift malarkey going to take?

And yes, I did kinda like the idea of Cornwall, but its flat with holes in it, no proper hills.

If you can't put up with the deterrent then clearly you aren't meant to live here...it's god's way of weeding out the weak and leaving it for the well deserved.

Otherwise, just bloody live with it...if you want to live somewhere due to the scenery and geography then surely you need to accept the weather that that geography brings with it...personally I don't have any issues with the weather up here (Scotland) - it's varied and always entertaining.

Wales? The weather there is consistently awful. Can't take it up here? HTFU.

You do know that it isn't like that every day? We do have quite clearly defined seasons. OK, it's generally cooler by a couple of degrees and the weather can be more changeable than in the broader part of the country, but it's still perfectly inhabitable. The North East is actually drier than the national average (due to the shadow of the Pennines).

Really? Continual winter, biting insects, walls of wind?!? It's not that bad! I live in Scotland and would live nowhere else in the UK. Next step, if I could, would be to live in Austria or Switzerland but the grass is not necessarily greener.

Depends where you live - I'm in Stirling with some of the best riding in the country on my doorstep, if I lived 10-15 miles away in Cumbernauld, I would be insanely depressed (more so than normal anyhow!), have substantially more rainfall and would doubtlessly become an internet stalker.

I would love it if more people moved north. I'd happily take at least half the population of London and the South East, and redistribute them throughout the North of Britain. Apparently there's a lot more space up there, so it makes sense. This would also distribute the wealth more evenly, and lead to an increase in standards in places like Doncaster and Oldham.

Would make Britain a better place altogether.
