actually follow a route on one? Cos I can’t! I used to have a Geko which I uploaded routes to from Tracklogs and it was bloody ace, no mapping on it just an arrow that pointed you in the right direction.
I’ve sent routes to IQ from Strava and Komoot and tried to follow routes that I’ve done myself but all I get is a bleeping every few seconds and the message “ recalculating”
I’ve turned all maps off apart from Garmin os GB mapping which I am using.
Any ideas? I’m seriously thinking of getting shut and just using my phone it’s that bad or am I just a bit thick?
Tia.
I use it all the time, especially from Komoot, so I wonder what the problem is. You could try going to the 'profile' that you select e.g. Mountain biking, and see if 'Lock on Road' is set to off. I can't think of what else it might be really
I hate the amount of tech in modern life. Unless you use it all the time it seems impossible to manage 🙁
Yep, mine works fine.
It occasionally gets a little bewildered at the start of a ride and tells me to try and turn round and head home after a couple of hundred yards, but it soon gets over it.
Just checked and lock on road is off. Mine did just that on a ride a couple of weeks ago, tried to make me turn right when I knew it was left and this was literally 200 yards from home.
When I’m on mtb profile the routing mode is road cycling, will that make any difference?

Thats what mine is as well. Try going to MTB profile and making sure you have a bike map showing as well.
At the start it can be a bit confused as cfh says but once on the route it is ok
Cheers guys.
no issues on my 1030, though it's not completely fool proof and can throw a wobbly occasionally. Always best to familiarise yourself with the route before hand rather than relying totally on it. Usually sorts itself out, but my last ride out where I used it it tried to take me down a road that is now a Lidl car park so no way through and had to hunt around to bypass it and get back on track and had to refer to google maps a few times. But got me round in the end.

Mine usually says something like "You are close to the start of your ride, do you want to start from here" or words to that effect so it doesn't try to take you to the exact point of the start of the ride and just picks up the route when you get onto it. Not sure if this is a new feature on the 1030 over the 1000.
Update. Tried to navigate a route on Sunday, next to useless, constant recalculating message followed by a tick in a black box which I have to press on to remove from the screen. Didn’t get any turn by turn notifications in the five miles I used it so I cable tied my phone onto it and used strava to follow the route. Managed to get back to the car with 1% battery!
I’ve mailed Garmin to see what they say.
Always been a Garmin user but think this will be the last one.
Anyone recommend anything else?
Just a shot in the dark here but have you got navigate to start of route on?
First time I used my 1000 I had that turned on and because I picked up a route about a mile into it it kept trying to send me back to the start.
No I haven't Stu.
I had one. I remember that it was actually pretty useless for navigating a route, and more frustratingly it would stop calculating directions about about two hours.
You could try exporting your routes from RideWithGPS as a different format (try GPX route with turn-by-turn switched off, or the generic FIT).
To be honest though it actually annoyed me so much I bought a Wahoo ELEMNT.
I’ll wait and see what Garmin say but if I don’t get any joy I will have a look at the Wahoo.
