Great piece of software. I use it extensively for route planning and archiving. Good editing tools, takes lots of map options (and easy to switch between them).

I'm embarrassed for folk that can't work out how to use it effectively.

I can work out how to use most software, but wtf? Open TCX file? Nooo! That's too easy. Create an "adventure".. what the **** is that?

Rule #1 of software user interface design: Don't reinvent the wheel.

use it lots best by far having used the rest. Its very easy to make a route or trail click and go.

Its very simple to use ....... 😀

If you want to use it to edit a route - ok.

What if you want to load a TCX you already have? Every other piece of software would have an 'open route' function. Not this one.

It took me a bit of time to get my head round it, but then i am an old git and not a very wired one! Forget adventures, you only need routes and tracks.
I like the choice of OSM maps (i mostly use Openmtbmaps and Fietsmaps).
A mouse is pretty well essential, especially as when abroad I use an Acer 8" tablet to route with. I'll agree that it is not perfect! 🙄

Once I've got the TCX on there, I don't appear to be able to remove it...

I use it all the time but hate it. If you are moving around map trying to plot a route you either need to keep changing tools on a toolbar or put up with an incredibly slow scroll as you move your mouse to the edge of the window.

And as for routes/tracks/adventures. I can never get which is which to stick in my brain 🙁

All far better.

In which case you're doing it wrong.

Oh, the embarrassment...

My complaint is that I should be able to do it right just by looking at what's presented to me on the screen.

I should not need to read a manual, spend an hour trying things or beg someone on the internet....

Drag and drop a TCX file. What could be more simple than that?

Right click - Delete. Isn't that fairly standard?

File -> open?

What the f is 'my collection' and 'unlisted data' and 'garmin adventures'? Open file, edit file, that's simple.

And I only seem to be able to delete the entire TCX, not parts of it...?

Use the delete 'tool' to select the bits you want to delete or you can click on the route, open it and edit it. Never read any manual. Seemed pretty straightforward to me. Right click and away you go.

Think you referring to the file system? My collection etc top left,it's a file system. You create a folder top left and save rides in that folder 'MTB' then sub folder 'Wales'? If you save all your rides in one the screen quickly becomes cluttered.

File/import or export allows you to insert a route into file or export a route to transfer via email etc. To send to device use 'send to'

Ignore adventures

Let's be honest, garmin make hardware very well generally. But they are dreadful at software.
