We've collected hundreds of seeds from our Himalayan Lilies.

They take a few years to flower but are pretty spectacular when they do.

Email me and I'll fire you some seeds in the post.

They are native to the Himalayas so I'd think they'd do better outside. They grow to a couple of metres in height too.

Hope they don't spread like Tibetan Balsam, it plagues all my local rides

That's Himalayan Balsam. That's a completely different plant and I agree its a menace.

They look fantastic!, but sound a bit of a bugger to germinate. Have you successfully germinated from seed?

We've not had a lot of success with germination. It might be worth putting half the seeds into the fridge for a spell to trick them into thinking they are back home. They don't like being mollycoddled.

This is a bit of an experiment to see if they'll work elsewhere.

Tempted but if they take a couple of years to flower there will probably be a new standard in lilies around by then, probably 3m tall ones (118 7/64b)

That was a bit of an unexpected response, in a really good way. STW is the new WI.

Here's the youtube clip I referred to in my emails. This will be a sleeper of a thread as they take a few years till they flower, but it really is worth the wait. Good luck.

Isn't this how the Day of the Triffids started...?

So after spending years genetically modifying plants that will wee in your shoes and let your tyres down, mcmoonter retreats back to his lab that is cunningly disguised as an artists studio to watch the horror unfold!

You don't fool me with your seemingly kind and generous gestures mcmoonter!

I may have made the coffee too strong this morning 🙂

The Triffids may be easier to germinate.

We harvested the seeds for this year's stock so they should be in perfect condition.

I'll get the last ones in the post today.

Strangely, we were talking about this plant at work today (I'm a trainee gardener for the NT) as our plants have produced lots of seed too. We were talking about the viability of UK-grown seed as many propagators advise seed to be brought from abroad as UK seed is often unviable for some reason (we could not fathom). So we too are experimenting with this! Good luck all!

It's just a hunch. They're from the Himalayas which I'd expect would be a lot colder than here. It may be that they need the cold to help trick them into thinking they are back home. I've heard a similar thing with Himalayan Poppies, Meconopsis, Try some in the fridge and the freezer for a couple of weeks, label which went where and see if it makes any difference.

Seeds arrived today thanks. This will be a nice little project over Christmas to get them started. Although that will prob just entail watching the video posted earlier and popping half in the fridge/ freezer 😉

Planted with what I had spare in the greenhouse. I'll leave them there over the weekend then find a home for them in the garden next week.

I've had a closer look at the 'green' bits and I'm pretty certain they are weeds, going to let them grow a little longer just to be sure.

Bunnyhop, were your shoots anything like these?

These are ours. A quick google suggests that these are the real deal. The excitement at Moont Towers is off the scale.
