I totally got pulled out of the moment by pondering the practicalities of bareback dragon-riding. I mean, quite apart from the difficulty of holding on, you'd be hypothermic in minutes. They could be doing with some goggles too.

I think everyone saw that killing Dickon and his Dad was going to come back to bite her and she's certainly showed none of her previous empty for the 'common man' when she bluntly told Sam he'd killed his Dad and Brother. No explanation other than they didn't 'bend the knee'.

end scene .... SPOILER of sort.... shows the walker generals but no night king.. hmmm.. me thinks he’s flying down to Kings Landing to flame everyone and then resurrect them all for when his northern army get beaten in next weeks big rumble. This should make an interesting show down when danny and John march down there to take the throne only to find the night king and a tonne of new undead plus cercei (also undead). Reckon this may end with young Aiya killing the night king with her new fangled spear thing that she has had specially made. still no clue on who gets the throne mind.

Y'all have the patience of a bunch of mewling toddlers. I'm enjoying the slow burn settling of accounts before the big rumble. Shame the quality of the dialogue can't always keep up.
Right then: time to play Spot the Stiff. Who gets it next week? My money's on:
1. The newly knighted Ser Brienne. By getting knighted, especially by Jaime, she's got pretty much all she wanted, thus bringing her character arc to an end.
2. Tormund. Likely to go down swinging beside Brienne.
3. Podrick Payne. Less sure about this one, but becomes a bit redundant when Brienne gets it.
4. Theon. Again, feels like he's reached the end of his character arc by returning to fight for Winterfell and saving Yara last week. I predict death by Night King.
5. Saddest of all for me: Dolorous Ed. I reckon it's the end of the road for the smart-arse everyman.
6. Beric Dondarrion. The Hound's reference to Thoros's absence seems a bit of a Chekov's Gun.
I'm not putting her on the list, but I also worry a bit for Arya.

Happy enough with ep2, OK not a lot actually happened but the story line still developed a fair bit and Tormund's scenes were great. Could have maybe done with a major character being killed off whilst off scouting or something but certainly didn't need a big battle, that's for next week.

I always find that it’s best to hide from a guy who can raise the dead in an enclosed space full of corpses with swords.
My wife has long thought Arya and Gendry were destined to get together and rule ever since Robert told Ned in the first series that his son would mary Ned' daughter (Sansa and Jofery, obvs).

They were playing up the tension between Deny and the others - especially the "I'm only here because Jon" bit). It would be a good twist if she'd left with her dragons by the time the battle starts.
They are making sure how much the viewer has invested in all these characters before they start killing them. I've loved both of the episodes so far, particularly the last one, but I can see how the instant gratification crew might want a bit more.

I still want Arya to kill Cersei though and leave the way for Jon to claim the throne, that's what I'd like to see happen, however this is Game of Thrones and I just don't see it being a happy ending.

What it also means is that, after the big battle between the living and the dead in Episode 3 there are still three more episodes to fill so either the first battle is inconclusive and there needs to be a second, bigger battle or the living win and there needs to be a less exciting battle against the Golden Company to decide the fate of the Iron Throne
Either way, expect one more fight and lots more talking in castles.
I think they will win at Winterfell but with heavy losses. Quite like the theory that the Night King won’t even be there. I don’t think he’ll be defeated in a pitched battle, it’ll be something else.

It is intriguing, there will be a winner of the battle of winterfell, regardless of who wins though, they are then going south, I did wonder as you didnt see the night king line up at the end of this week if maybe he's not sent all his army to winterfell and is off doing something else too, he has the man power for it!

Whatever happens next week I can't see them all being wiped out, that would basically leave Cersei, Bron, the Mountain and Euron in the series, that's gonna be a bit boring so I reckon a fair few will escape the carnage.
Maybe there won't actually be a battle scene next week and it'll all be scene setting down at Kings Landing with Cersei walking the battlements, people would lose their shit if that happened 😆

That's a fair point, although I still think they'd have included him somehow if it wasn't significant for him not to appear in the scene.
So maybe he's gone south to obliterate then raise Cersei's army, meanwhile the living barely win the battle of Winterfell (by slaying the white walkers to take out most of the wight horde) then we have another big battle with the Night King + his wights vs remaining living (would seem a bit unbalanced without another factor in it though like Arya killing the Night King)

Walker pace varies greatly depending on how they need to move the story along. See also Daenerys using fast ferries to get the army across the sea.
As the dead are only really animated in the depths of a decent frost, I don't know why they don't just whack the heating up to maximum and close the front gates.

Surely he knows everything that any of his victims knew when they died. Lord Umber was at the meeting when the human defense plans were discussed. Also, it's a fantasy story with characters with magical powers so he can know anything the writers decide they want him to know. They can explain it all away as because magic.

The most interesting bit of ep 2 for me was the conversation that Tyrion insisted on having with Bran. The one that we only heard the start of to avoid spoilers
Up till now everyone else has just dismissed Bran as being a bit weird. “Errr...three eyed raven? I don’t know what that is?”
Tyrion is the first one to sit him down and have an actual conversation with him which, given that Bran can see everything that is or has happened, might turn out to useful.

Unless there's a bunch of snow on the ground at Kings Landing, I think it's probably Winterfell. Also, Torsten etc said they had sprinted round the army to get to Winterfell from wherever they were in the first ep.
It took the fat king a month to get from Kings Landing to Winterfell in series 1. I suspect even the writers would see that teleportation being a step too far...

Drac - they're bringing 8 years of story arcs together, it takes some telling! And it's been brilliantly handled so far, particularly the coming together of former enemies.
It's Ep2, and THE battle is literally arriving now, it's intriguing to see what will unravel over the following weeks, no?

Well... watched ep2 last night and feel the pace and build up is perfect. Those of you spoiling for a fight, be careful what you wish for methinks, the battle for Winterfell could go for at least one, possibly two episodes. It’s not going to be pretty.
As with Endgame, I’m avoiding any and all references/trailers to GoT on the internet (apart from this thread and only after I’ve watched the latest episode!), the suspense and anticipation is all part of the show for me 😃
As for predictions or guessing, since binge watching all 7 series a year ago, the one thing I’ve found with GoT is not to get attached to any of the characters, ‘cos they’re likely to die!
I also figure that from the look between Danny and Jon/Aegon on the battlements at the end of ep2, that perhaps Danny really is in love with him and let’s face it, incestual relationships between Targaryen’s is completely normal and cousins...? That makes them positively distant relations!
