nVidia Geoforce GTS 250, keeps mis-behaving. Could be over-heating but monitor software says only 67degs. To get the PC to reboot I have to remove card, boot, reinsert and then boot again. Fed up now, been going on for 6m.

So looking for a new card, PCIE, preferrably fan-less, about 1GB, not full of unnecessary physics and 3D engines, VGA and DVI output's a must.

ideas?

Fanless might be a problem if you don't have good cooling inside the case. Get one with quality quiet fan and you will be happier. Btw does your power button does not do the trick? Very strange

power button doesnt fix it. I think there must be a report in the bios that needs clearing.

I have couple of big case fans going fine and as I said 67deg on the GPU isnt that hot, but the geoforce is noisy fan. Want something thats expected to work without a fan.

Is your PSU up to the job?

Sounds like heat, I agree, but worth sanity-checking. I'd take any thermal sensor readings with a pinch of salt, TBH.

it's quite easy to reseat the heat-sink-fan

using iso-alchol + cotton wool to clean whatever naff compound is on there off the face of the gpu and memory blocks

then repaste with some arctic silver or similar

obviously whilst your at it clean any dust of the exterior

see if this helps.. it will only cost a couple of quid and perhaps 15min of time

really it's not a heat issue. the GCard is clean as a whistle, the GPU is operating well below temp threshold. Its been cranky since I got it (eBay build), intermittent drop out. I just dont trust it.

I have a dvi only ATI crappy (128MB no fan) thing I use as a back up and its been fine.

There is also 5750 fanless from gigabyte and powercolor if you search a bit. Might be a tad better for the odd game.
