Driving to work this morning, 6.30am, a little Pantera on the player to blow away the cobwebs.
Got me thinking, which albums have great opening tracks? An opening track that really get you into the album with a bang. The albums don't have to be classics, just have great opening songs.
(if you wanna include the Eating, drinking, listening thats fine to)
I'll kick off:
Pantera - Cowboys from Hell - Cowboys from Hell.
RATM - Bombtrack - RATM.
Aerosmith - Eat the Rich - Get a Grip (i know technically the 2nd track...)
the intro to [url=
by Motorhead always gets me revved up. Always has.
[url=
Friday night going out music raaarrrrghhhh!!!! release the bats
Hells Bells opening Back in Black by AC/DC still gets me going.
Also Rockaway Beach opening Its Alive by The Ramones...
[url=
For The Blackout on The Black Album - The Damned
[url=
- God Is An Astronaut From the album All Is Violent, All Is Bright
Great track and a great album
Dialectic Chaos on Endgame by megadeth.
It's instrumental but the lead into the second track is awesome \m/ 😀
Good thread. I'm sure I'll think of loads later, but the first one to come to mind was The Kiss by the Cure. They also opened with this when I went to see them live in Birmingham NEC and I was right in the front row!
Also, didn't Frankie Goes to Hollywood kick off with a mega long version of Welcome to the Pleasuredome?
Hotel California
Not the first track but the second - Led Zep IV
For me its got to be "Breaking into Heaven" – 11:21 of pure bliss. Stone Roses - Second Coming.
Cochise-Audioslave. Think I'll listen to the whole album now. 😀
[url=
Company - Five Finger Death Punch.... awesome track
Welcome to the Jungle. Obviously
And Blackened. And Lose Control by Ash.
Bmc09 +1
Grand Theft Audio - Death to the Infidels.
]The second track is normally 'the one'
Blurs [url=
2 being a classic
Or [url=

Cannonball Still have a crush on Kim Deal
Opening tracks:
Dinosaur Jr - Freak Scene ( I'm one of the dorky, lanky looking ones in the crowd - anyone else at Reading that year - Nirvana etc ...... memories)
Smells like teen spirit
Debaser

If you're going to have a Friday Night Music thread, please link to YouTube or similar vid of the tunes. Come on, do it properly at least ffs...
[url=
to You Oh Earth and Sea
for the Devil sends the beast with wrath
because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding
reckon the number of the beast
for it is a human number
its number is six hundred and sixty six.
I always liked Asian Dub Foundation - Enemy of the Enemy:
[url=
Europe
AC/DC thunderstruck like this !!!
Oh I've misunderstood the point of the thread, sorry. I thought it meant great opening tunes in general. Soz. 😳
[url=
On You Crazy Diamond
+1 for London Calling and FGTH
I'm sure to get flamed but Welcome To The Pleasure Dome is IMO a superb album that has stood the test of time. The opening track is the perfect start to a long early morning drive
Come on, do it properly at least ffs...
do you really need reminding what London Calling sounds like? 🙄
On a metal tip, has to be 'Roots Bloody Roots' on 'Roots' by the once mighty Sepultura.
[url=
Rebirth of the Nemesis
[url=
God I hate Them All
Both have wakey wakey beginnings and to be frank Astarte could wake me up any time.
Kinky Afro. Happy Mondays. pills n thrills n bellyaches.
"son, I'm 30, I only went with your mother 'cos she's dirty"
Proper good opener to a really patchy but good vibes album.
From out of nowhere on Faith no More's The Real Thing.
+1 for Breaking into Heaven and Thunderstruck
Valley of Lost Souls (on Flesh and Blood by Poison)
The Fun Lovin' Criminal (t'eponymous track on on Come Find Yourself)
Ch-Check It Out (To The Five Boroughs, Beastie Boys)
Let's Go Crazy (Purple Rain, Prince)

because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding
reckon the number of the beast
for it is a human number
its number is six hundred and sixty six
Good track, but not the opening one from that album, that honour goes to Invaders I believe
Snow White Diner on the Handsome Family album "Twilight" always grabs my attention. Songs written in the present tense and first person always put you right there and that's quality narration.
Boxelder has a point with Grandaddy too - what a band they were!
Since the split, Jason's solo album was disappointing, but the new Admiral Radley album is worth every penny.
No I misunderstood I thought it mean tracks with great openings.
Break on Through, The Doors
Release the Pressure, Leftism
Gardenia from 'Welcome To Sky Valley' by Kyuss
It just gets the head nodding and continues to for the rest for the rest of the album.
Vader - Member
+1 for London Calling and FGTHI'm sure to get flamed but Welcome To The Pleasure Dome is IMO a superb album that has stood the test of time. The opening track is the perfect start to a long early morning drive
No flames from me!
It was the first LP I ever bought.

Video version. You need to see this bugger rather than just hear
Loooooads of albums have a great opening track, let's have a rule:
The opening track has to be the best track, that'll narrow it right down.
Now it's on
+1 that man.
A Thousand Trees / Stereophonics / Word Gets Around (Still a great album, shame it's been a steady decline since)
The Final Arrears / Us / Mull Historical Society
What's the Frequency Kenneth? / REM / Monster
Into the Valley / The Skids / Dunfermline
Stuck Between Stations / The Hold Steady / Boys & Girls in America
Dog Eat Dog; Kings of the wild frontier...Kinda sets out it's stall early.
Come together; Abbey Road. Lordy what a way to start
This is a call; Foo Fighters.
Ceremony; Substance New Order (Ok possibly not the best track on the album, but hey it's still a hell of a way to go...)
Cherub Rock; Siamese Dream Smashing Pumpkins.
Bone Machine Surfer Rosa Pixies.
Message in a bottle Regatta De blanc Police
To start
Electric Wizard - Vinum Sabbathi. Filthy bassline.
The Bronx - Heart Attack American
Down - Temptations Wings
Shiny Toy Guns - You Are The One
Pendulum - Slam (kind of the first track)
CFH is a great one as well as is Highway to Hell 🙂
Danzig "long way back from hell" 42 seconds in its starts pumpin'

also Everclear "so much for the afterglow"

It doesn't matter what the track is, but it should start with a helicopter
