It appears he was excommunicated from the church last year but no idea why. Sadly they will definitely revel in the publicity.

I don't celebrate anyone's death however he wasted a valuable life spreading hatred and evil. I certainly won't miss him. His daughter will no doubt continue the hatred until it peters out.

There really isn't. The Westboro Baptist Church is fairly unique, that's one of the reasons they've attracted so much attention over years. They number only a few dozen, with a good percentage coming from just one family.

There are many bigots out there, One doesnt have to be a member of a made up so called church to be an ignorant fool, or even be a unique idiot.

It affects all groups and types of person and class.

One cannot have gradations of uniqueness; one either is, or is not, unique.

Well I don't think they are totally unique. You can probably find other small groups of simular religious homophobic misfits. Maybe not as noisy though.

Does an internal wrangle within a small subsect of christianity in America have any relevance whatsoever to mountainbiking?I appreciate they very homophobic,but so are many people and organisations in this and other countries,with far more dangerous effects for gay people,such as the recent trend for homophobic legislation in West Africa.I hope mountainbiking is an inclusive pastime,and that we should starve this small group of bigots (the Westborough Baptist church) of the oxygen of publicity by ignoring them.I feel sure they are reveling in the hits counts on their and other similar sites.

How did he get from being a civil rights lawyer fighting racism in a time when it was genuinely tough to being filled with such hatred and being anti human rights?

With reference to above a friend of mine has just been sacked for being gay so still plenty of hatred and ignorance in the world.

Read Leviticus 18 and 20 in full (the context is important, some try to isolate sentences and claim "not lie with" doesn't mean not have sex with, but 20 makes it clear by using the same language with reference to animals).

If you don't like what Phelps says then you don't agree with what Moses said in the name of God. Jesus lived by the Jewish laws of Moses and didn't attempt to revoke them.

The Bible is clear and it's the "fundamentalists" in all three major religions that are upholding the "word of God" according to their books.

I doubt I'd get very far though if I tried to get the Hebrew texts in the Bible banned for encouraging discrimination and violence that is illegal where I live.
