delete all your STW cookies

Didn't work for me. No worries though, I flit between Chrome and FF anyway, no great shakes to use FF.

Agreed though, it does seem a lot faster. Nice work.

Too late to edit that, but in Chrome 'clear all cookies' did work (for me) in the end, I just wasn't doing it right.

Hmm, I've cleared cookies from Chrome on my Android phone but I still can't log in there..

Was having the same problem on my PC, but clearing the cookies on there worked fine, so I suspect it is a cookie thing, but I'm not sure how to fix it.

To clear the cookies on Android I went to the website, 'clicked' on the padlock in the address bar, then on 'SITE SETTINGS', then 'CLEAR & RESET', which claims to 'clear all local data, including cookies and reset all permissions for this website'. I said 'yeah!' and did it, but it still won't let me log in.

I don't really want to clear all cookies from all websites, that would be a pain, and I've no reason to think it would work if doing it this way doesn't.... Any ideas?

Thanks!

well, having cleared cookies and logged back in it is working great here, fast and no popups, no issues at all. Well done STW Team, it looks better than ever now 🙂

This clearing cookies thing has been an issue for months for me, even before the update.

Would never load until I deleted all history. At last a problem that isn’t down to the improvements

Wrote a post last night on my newfangled iphablet. To my annoyance the text was white so could not read it while typing. New one for me.

Given up quoting.

I have no problems logging in; it's being logged out on a daily basis that's the issue.

Possibly related to the forum address dropping the www.

Could someone on Android please check if you can paste Youtube links into the body of post? I've tried multiple browsers, I seem to be able to paste into the titles but not the body.

Had to do the clear cookies on my iPad - then when I tried to access the front page of the site it crashed Safari. I can get to the forums but not the main page.

Well I can't, I say this logged in on Chrome via an incognito tab as clearing cookies didn't work in chrome.

I don't know what is going on as this issue like many others is unique to STW, I can paste in address bars, search boxes ..other forums but I cannot paste into posts here on STW, I used to be able to..so this is a wonderful new feature.

It just gets better and better.

Paste has been flaky for me (chrome on android) since the update. Sometimes it works after a bit of tapping or long pressing, sometimes I get the magic blue dot that can be tapped to get a menu. Its not working this morning at all.

Super speedy!

Pretty smooth transition to AWS or whatever… they'll always be some hiccups. Nicely done.

One good point I'll take from this (certainly the delete cookies advice) is having deleted all cookies it's forced me to revisit and log in on some very used websites.. this has lead to keychain offering up a couple of log in options, log ins which I had forgotten I'd created.. So I've just been ploughing through websites... logging in and seeing which "login/password" options it's thrown up and then made note of them, logged in with the one I normally use then go into keychain and delete the those that are redundant..

I feel all IT this morning, must be the baggy white coffee stained T-Shirt and wild hair I'm sporting 😉

Also, deleting some websites that I'm never going to visit again...

Purge, thats the word of today.

Yup, get this a lot on my iPhone. Mentioned it several times. Seems to have been "filed" with all the other problems

A general question; how many times do you hit the Submit button? With no feedback and the time delays I tend to tap it 5-6 times just to make sure.

<span data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">I can't profess to know any of the technical details of what Marky Mark, Wise Andy and Young Tom are doing in regards to migrating to a new server - all that stuff goes way over my head

What I do know is that all three of those fellas are working literally around the clock to improve both the website and the forum for everyone - both users and editorial staff.

Unfortunately we don't have an enormous IT department to make all of these things magically happen for us. There are literally two blokes that manage everything in-house for what is one of the world's largest cycling websites. Despite our small staff team, that website is a total behemoth, and it takes a lot of heaving and prodding to get it to move the right way. Quite often it gets pushed one way though, and it moves in an entirely direction, causing significant unseen problems.

For example, we currently have an enormous issue in the back end that is causing big issues for the editorial team, and it is super frustrating, because it means I can't do the work that I'm employed to do. But as many frustrations as I'm having in the back end with working on stories at the moment, I know that those frustrations will only be temporary, and it is improving.

Please bear with us on the website and forum upgrade - I know that Mark and our two IT guys are stressed up to their eyeballs trying to iron out all the wrinkles. I won't speak for them, but I'm guessing that's why there's been less opportunity for communication lately.

However, I can assure you that nobody is trying to kill the forum or website - far from it. I hope you guys can appreciate the efforts that are going on behind the scenes, which despite the short term pain, will improve things in the longer term.

I would have done that, but I’m not part of STW and all comms should come from them direct IMO.

Will’s info has been said many times on here before though, it’s good for reminder but it’s no different then what has been mentioned before that STW IT is a very small team that look after more than getting emojis to work.

You can search Facebook Mike it’s extremely easy, there’s also a search BETA option for the forum for people to test.

What do I put in to search for STW Forum Update Drac, not being an arse but it's not that simple - Do I have to know what I'm searching for exists?

It would take a very small amount of time for those posting long updates on the Facebook threads giving explanation to add them in here. After all it is kind of what people have been asking for....

I can't comment on the mobile site as I've never used it, but on the desktop site the reply window is much smaller than it looks and you need to right click at the very top to paste. It's just another quirk you get used to.

Well, it would be nice if they looked after more than getting emojis to work. Right now surfing facebook seems to be an apparently sound use of their time, but heaven forbid they post the update they've just written on their own ****ing forum. Y'know, where the people who use the forum might see it :rolls:

So it is. How bizarre. Same on the mobile site. I can paste within the text or first line but nowhere else. Nice spot.

Will who posted that doesn’t work in the IT section

Without getting into massive argument and continuing the debate about "updates" because, hey we've all had enough argument on here about them..

But..

If Will doesn't work in IT at STW, then should Will really be making statements on behalf of STW about the Forum issues and upgrade issues on a Facebook Group that is not affiliated nor managed by STW?

Yes, everyone is entitled to opinion and conjecture.. and Yes, to some extent "his" opinion could just be construed as "comment only and not on behalf of STW" but that didn't come across in the message, nor was it channeled to reflect such. He signed it off as ST Will..

My comment simply backed up the opinion on here that you really need to be FB STW Group to gain any Comms from/on behalf of STW.

And before we go down the route of berating me for posting my comment on it.. I posted it to make users aware that an update/comment was made on behalf of STW on the FB page should they wish to hop over there and read it.

Wonder if that's because the people in the FB group generally seem to be quite nice and level headed types rather than the sort of pedantic professionally outraged and displeased types who populate this place?

the fact people are critical of a paid for service that is at best very dubious, makes us/some "outraged and displeased" ? Really ?

Think about the Wiggle/CRC or the "Dont go here/there.." or BPW charges.... There's nothing bad about people picking up on them faults ? But if someone picks up on STW not doing a very good job then suddenly it's out of order ?

Isn't it?

When I go on there it says at the top of the page " Group by Singletrack Mountain Bike Magazine" and the group info page has rules which are signed off by The Singletrack Editorial Team.

Play nice folks.
