Just a thought but would a sticky with a single post (or at least only editable by mods) with an on-going list of known bugs be a good idea just to stop the same “quoting doesn’t work” or “editing isn’t working” posts from appearing several times in 50% of threads? No guarantee it’d get read mind…

Get back to Github with that organised witchcraft!

Just to confirm - despite the page width having been resolved (see my previous post) the dialogue box for inserting images is still too wide and the one for inserting links is still looping.

boldbold

And the text formatting buttons are still doing that strange repetition thing when the spacebar is pressed

The text on the Submit button is now going to a shade of grey when pressed too. Hopefully, this will reduce the double/triple posting problem - though it would be good/correct to have some sort of progress bar too.

“the dialogue box for inserting images is still too wide and the one for inserting links is still looping.”

Quit whining, at least you have a dialogue box😂

I copied the URL  from the desktop site, not the mobile one.

And also stripped the 's' out of https

Just testing something else

Hmm. Looks like I need to press Submit twice. The first attempt merely moves the reply box to the top of the screen. The second press makes the text go grey.

Can I just check before I spend any more effort on it that the links on your forum replies page aren't working even for those who have the buttons? eg this page for me https://singletrackworld.com/members/aracer/forums/replies (though if it worked then it should work for anybody) - supposedly the "Posted X ago" links bottom left should take you to the thread if it was working.

Though I think I might just fix the edit thing (can easily do that client side - @bearnecessities can even add a little more functionality than the site provides when it works 😉 ) and make a beta release of the Chrome extension for those interested.

edit: belay the need to fix my post - I was being dim, I've done it myself

That's true for me - I have buttons but those links do not work.

I can’t get to the thread I replied to. All I see is a list of my replies.

You see the bit that says posted x mins/hours ago? Click that.

Not working for me, that's a link to an anchor reference in the same page

OK, clicking on the freshness link now takes me to the latest post (in this thread at least)

Bug: Copy and past puts in the formatting codes. I started a thread using text copied from a text editor and when displayed it was wrapped in HTML formatting codes. If the following paragraph also has these then it's still a bug.

Some random text out of a text editor (not a word processor)

Right, so this is a beta but it's got about as much testing as the STW forum. For anybody using the existing STW extension, or anybody using Chrome on Windows (or Mac?)

https://goo.gl/6h9thV

unzip the file, go to chrome://extensions/ select developer mode, click on "Load unpacked extension..." select the directory you unzipped it to.

You should now have an icon top right of the browser window, right click and select options, there you can enable stuff. I've fixed blocking users and quoting. I've also added a fix for the broken edit button, that should work by default without you having to select anything.

Still can't paste in android if there is no txt already in the reply box.

I can copy but the usual press and hold to get the paste menu fails.

I have also had some strange editing problems in android where I try to delete a word mid mid senstance and retype but it keeps filling in the original word. This is not consistent behaviour thought so unfortunately I can't give a proper detailed report.

Actually just in case anybody knows how to run client side scripts on other platforms (or for the devs!) here is the javascript (actually mostly jquery) to make the edit button work, it's really simple:

function fixEditLinks() {
$('.bbp-reply-edit-link').each(function() {
$(this).attr('href', 'http://singletrackworld.com/forum/reply/' +
$(this).parent().prev().attr('href').substr(6) + '/edit/');
});
}

I cannot access the forum using Chrome on Mac (latest version).  Too many redirects, it says.

😆

Well it worked until I let the STW forum near it - still have link mangling problems (yes I did test the link I pasted in incognito window!)

Fixed in the post above (and now in the original post 😉 )

It's only a browser extension, it doesn't work miracles!

(and sadly it won't make any difference to quotes other people have posted - it occurs to me I probably could fix them client side though...)

Sorry, most of this is going over my head. I'm sure it's far from easy to get this all sorted.

But....... forums not not exactly a recents or niche thing there must be tens or even hundreds of thousands of them. Surely there was an off the shelf product that would have got them 95% there without all this faffing?

Secondly..... a forum with only 2 sub catagories and no ability to easily find threads you had previously contributed to is no use to anyone. Whilst I appreciate this is still a work in progress I can't believe this was not a feature that was live from the outset if the place was to remain live whilst the work was done.

Thirdly...would be intrguided as to what this is costing STW in terms of income stream. By what percentage has the traffic reduced?

I've resolved to stay away for a month to save myself from frustration. I am irrationally annoyed by it. Deleted from my bookmarks to revent idle habit browsing and I'll see you in March.

Ah the wonders of the echo chamber. Welcome back to the world that can't understand why Trump won, easily. Welcome to the world of Economists who almost in their entirety missed the global financial crises then tried to brush it off with the phrase "group think"

Nope. Just clicked your nifty quote button

@Jambalaya: when you can correctly interpret a graph that you posted, which actually supports the point you were arguing against and doesn't even cover the years you were trying to talk about, perhaps you'll contribute something worth reading. Cya.
