MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
So yes, there are bugs and they will be fixed. in the meantime I’m sorry for the glitches but sometimes you have to rip everything down before you can build something better.
And that's just utter BS.
You keep the old system running whilst you trial the new one on a separate server and iron out all the bugs. No one ever swaps a live system to a completely untested new version unless they want to be fired by the end of the week....
So yes, there are bugs and they will be fixed. in the meantime I’m sorry for the glitches but sometimes you have to rip everything down before you can build something better.
No he hasn't Drac.
^^^^ this is bollocks. And it's bollocks because a growing number of professionals on here that are in the industry are saying it is. And they're not just whining, they're repeatedly offering workable solutions that could limit the damage and salvage the sites reputation.
I don't quite get the cold thing. I'm a bit muddled tonight. Could you explain?
Not to pile on, but agree with the flappy footed one.
If this behaviour was shown in testing it should have stayed there till it was fixed.
But, to give Mark his due, he is consistent and steadfast in his belief in this new trailblazing rollout technique. Which is a admirable trait.
Anyway, I’m off to get the Wikipedia summary of the sunken cost fallacy tattooed on my right bum cheek.
He said sorry but it’s remained cold, you know you said hell would freeze over if he said sorry.
Yeah it was a crap joke.
However, I’ll bet my onions he’ll continue to wheel Cougar and Drac out as sacrificial lambs to take the flak. I’m not sure what maintains your loyalty gents, but if I was Mark I’d sure as hell be letting you know your value.
Thanks for the votes of confidence (sincerely).
No-one's wheeling anyone out for anything. We - well, I at least, I can't speak for Drac - do it for the love of the community here. Presumably the same reason everyone else is still here I guess.
It's frustrating for sure. But this too will pass.
Honest question, Cougar.
What gives you that hope?
It’s frustrating for sure. But this too will pass.
Well it certainly seems quieter here.
I saw talk of a post from Mark explaining what was going on or an update - where as it as it seems to be lost in all the posts, maybe one of you could show him how to do a sticky 😉 Or it might be in the weekly Newsletters that have stopped too.
Not trying to be an arse but it's not that good in here, mobile posting is much harder and has left me giving up replying to technical threads I could answer, the history thing means I've not bothered checking back on threads.
Same reason Cougar as I’ve had to ‘justify’ in the past that and I’ve known the STW bods for around 16 years now. Not sure how Bullheart thinks he knows that we’re not appreciated.
I've just been given six months to live by my oncologist. Will it be before then?
[inserts appropriate dark/macabre/wistful/sobbing/laughing emoji]
[deletes for fear of it ending up in Ling thread through forum redirection error]
****ing hell bullheart you’ve just put everything in perspective.
I’ve just been given six months to live by my oncologist. Will it be before then?
I'm going to say no. Although, they might have fixed quotes by then.
Also, sorry to hear that mate.
Edit: The span spam has no respect.
What gives you that hope?
I've seen the future.
I’ve just been given six months to live by my oncologist.
Shit dude. That was good timing on my part, sorry. I thought you were on the mend.
Hold your horses Tonto - where and when did I mention that you and Cougar weren't appreciated? I said that if I were Mark, I'd be letting you know how much I appreciated you both (and the unseen mods). Now clearly, you haven't walked, so either he's doing something right or you're doormats, and I very much doubt it's the latter.
My experiences of Mr Alker are not positive - but they are not definitive, a point your loyalty evidently counters. Two sides and all that...
Remember though; if something looks like shit, smells like shit and tastes like shit, it's probably not a Lion Bar....*
* (relating to the Forum, not the owner)
Mark (F) - don’t waste your time with it, honestly. The mods are doing a good job, the forum has gone a bit shite, it will get better, one day, and as you say on FB, real things, like the crap disease that has affected many of us, you more than any I currently know, are what is properly important. Family, memories, precious things..
Just read bullheart's Facebook update and almost in tears. Now this. Shit Mark.
Ya bastard!
Hold your horses Tonto – where and when did I mention that you and Cougar weren’t appreciated?
I think Drac interpreted that as "not appreciated by Mark / STW" rather than "not appreciated by the forum members."
I have seen the very best of humanity through this website Mark. I have experienced immeasurable kindness from remarkable people.
Started reading that in the voice of Rutger Hauer. 😉
Hang tight bruv.
Yes I did Cougar. Sorry if I got that wrong Bullheart.
I’ve just been given six months to live by my oncologist. Will it be before then?
Don’t know what to say Mark, but sending you all the positive thoughts possible.
I’ve got to use the Classifieds to raise funds for funeral costs.
If people have GoFundMe pages on here for dog surgery, and then are never to be seen again, and ducking drum kits, I reckon you should have one for your funeral costs.
I’d rather give £15 to that than a P on here 🦄
Very sorry to hear Bullheart's shitty news too. I agree with Jamie.
Me too. Jesus life’s grim at times.
Wow.
That's popped life right into perspective.
In the real world, my job is planning IT stuff and writting solution brief documents for engineers and project managers to work to. The place I work for is very well known in the sector they work in, quite large, and as such they pay relatively well for the work they have us chimps churn out.
I'm deliberately very closed about where I work on forums and in social media, but my experience is that if you're making schema or database changes you make sure it's going to work, ID a UAT group, and mess around with that before you go into production, buy a test server, migrate a pool, check all your plugins and functions, make sure changes don't impact those who are service users, then ensure you can roll it all back should it go to shit.
Seems that's not been the case.
Don't envy whoevers shoulders sorting this mess out has fallen on.
You know the little survey thing that pops up on the main site homepage? Perhaps STW could have a referendum? ‘Remain’ with the old fully functioning forum, or ‘Leave’ for the false promises and fading dreams of the New STW Order?
In the real world, my job is planning IT stuff
In here people like that (Us) are ten a penny! 😉
Are you in a Matrix Cogwomble?
I'm really sorry to hear that bullheart. As someone who has had very little interaction with you on here and none in the real world I just felt that I should say that reading about you dealing with what you were going through and your attitude to it was a real inspiration to me when I first had my MS diagnosis.
Does anyone else find it bizarre to have [s]classes AND all that[/s] inline styling?
I’m in Jamie
The inline styling isn't part of the site styling, it's actual text inside a "blockquote" element that has been added by the paste function associated with this reply box.
In fact a lot of the problems people are reporting are to do with this bit of code: masses of span detritus when pasting text; inability to edit posts on iPad (possibly other mobile devices as well) - once you click inside the original text you can't move the cursor! I'm sure that there are others that I've forgotten.
Ah, that explains it then. It really didn't make any sense but I didn't care enough to track it down
Ok I know how to search for a thread I’ve responded to, and it comes up with a long list of responses.
However am I being blind but how do you tell what the thread was about unless you click on to it?
Mighty annoying I am trying to find a thread I responded on Canada and I ain’t found it yet.
However am I being blind but how do you tell what the thread was about unless you click on to it?
Just hover your mouse over the hashtag
And as for bullheart's news, properly shit to hear 🙁
‘Just hover your mouse over the hashtag’
How do you hover using an iPhone ?
Back in the days of the shit forum it showed the thread title too
How do you hover using an iPhone ?
No idea, I haven't got one 🙂
edit: on android you can hold your finger on the hashtag and it shows the link. Maybe same on iphone?
I like the new forum.
Before I'd get up in the morning and check to see what drunken shite I'd posted the night before, but now it's like every day is a new one! 😀
well thanks for the update in the Our Forum post
Update: Monday 13th February
The forum will be worked on and alongside with other developments. The things that we are currently doing on the forum are:
1. Put a search back that will be useful and won’t slow the site
2. Improve the member history so you can find your posts and replies to your posts
3. Deal with the formatting issues.
We will be giving a brief update, hopefully at the end of each working day.
Thanks for your patience.
Be good to see what's been fixed
I’m in Jamie
Weirdest PSA ever.
I’m in Jamie
Did he pay extra for the lube?
That's properly Crap news Bullheart. You are an inspiration! Good luck and may your God go with you.

I know things aren't ideal right now but I swear, sometimes people must just look for things to complain about.
1) that post was made six hours ago, as you can see from the time stamp. The day is clearly a typo / braino. Big whoop.
2) "We will be giving a brief update, hopefully at the end of each working day."
3) 42 pages of "well, it'd all be ok if we just got an official update" here; STW: Here's an update and we'll try to do more; "Well, that's not good enough."
I mean, that's all very well and everything, but when do we get the cakes?
The cake is a lie.

are useful and exactly what people are asking for - thanks (the latter is a non issue for me as the scripts don't work, hence I don't have any buttons or preview, but also no strange formatting text when quoting - would be nice to get that fixed, but personally I'd prioritise it lower than those other two issues).
Even more thanks for a useful and informative update.
The Singletrack Enrichment Center is committed to the well being of all participants. Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all.
Now, where's that 'like' button...
It's under my post in the vegan cafe thread, which you should probably delete. 🙂
I'm with Cougar on this one. Update provided in a prominent place by the owner, as requested. It's a start...
By all means discuss the priority of the tasks being dealt with, and I agree that despite the previous explanation, reinventing Google would be very low down the list for me too, but give him a break!
We ask for him to provide updates in a sticky so they don't get lost in the noise. People then complain that they can't comment on that thread (which would generate the noise). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Right, I'm back to ponder whether I'm robbing or being exploited by ASDA
Just keep from the fresh veg isle Zokes if you don’t want exploited.
I like to think of myself as more of a speciality meat

Grindr?
Oh ffs.....
😂
I apologise if this has been mentioned it this thread already, but I can't go through 42 pages to see if it has.
2 features I found useful in the old days were the " latest reply by ........." Which took you to the end of the thread and the ability to log in from the end of the thread.
I don't stay logged in as i share my I pad.
Will this features be included again when everything's up and running ?
Thanks
@simmy - the first is still there - the links under the "Freshness" column take you to the latest post (I used it to get to yours). The popup text is different now.
I think the log-in is at the top right of threads/pages now.
Any reason why the quote button doesn't seem to work for me. I hit it , get a cursor in the box, then it won't let me paste anything there. Using Firefox if that matters.
It's quite frustrating that an easy to use popular forum has been borked. I've turned off my recurring annual subscription. I'll decide whether to renew when the time comes.
The situation IS getting a bit long in the tooth for patience. IMHO...

...I dream of having a quote button! 🙂
Anyone mentioned that SwiftKey is somewhat temperamental on here?
How do we post a pic from an iPad now?
Anyone mentioned that SwiftKey is somewhat temperamental on here?
Yes it has cheers. I’ve no answer for you though sorry.
Oh yes quote appears to be fixed.
Go Jamba and TJ start your copy and paste frenzy.

"Oh yes quote appears to be fixed."
Presumably only for those anointed with the formatting buttons?
Daily updates now in the 'Our Forum' thread.

Also the post image box spans over a portrait screen for me (chrome/android ) with the cancel being off screen
Is it not time to stop the criticism? We have all had our chance to air our issues and most seem to be being tackled.
It’s in STW’s interest to fix the issues and they are clearly aware of that now. Ad revenue, driven by visits is likely to have taken a bump and that will hit them in the pocket - as would departing subscribers.
Many of us have the knowledge and experience to have managed this more smoothly - but STW probably does not have the resources to hire a lot of people with that capability. Although it is a business, STW was started by enthusiasts for enthusiasts and let’s face it, that is not the largest niche or most profitable model.
By taking a different approach - by perhaps creating a separate defect log thread where users can report problems or ‘features’, we could cool the temperature down somewhat? Also maybe a thread where people could offer their support in terms of knowledge, effort and lessons learned - that would be more in the spirit of our STW community? Make no mistake, this is ‘our community’ - STW have provided the infrastructure and functionality - but we make it what it is and can make it better again.
I am not a techy but have led digital change programmes, other business change programmes - involving significant technology investment and delivered the technical implemention of large systems. I would be happy to offer some support. Many of you on here are similar to me or far more technical or otherwise capable and could do the same. It would be much more positive...
