Is it even on sale yet? I thought it has only got so far as a test drive from the motoring press?

My lodger bought a new one (03 plate) it was fun but when pressing on, that diff gives a lot more grip but also makes the break away point much more difficult to judge, hopefully they've sorted it in the new model - I'd drive one on uneven surfaces to see what you think, he said he found it hard to relax when driving longer distances.

i'd agree - if available a demo is imperative.

I'm sorely tempted by one of these, but they do not do it in orange.

it's been suggested it can do it all.

the_lecht - sure it can do it all, but its not going to be as comfy going to the supermarket as a 7 series BMW for example - well not without switchable suspension systems etc. The requirements for each role vary too much IMO. Plus that's all down to personal limits - I wouldnt mind driving a rally car 200 miles down a motorway for a while, but I'm sure I'd get bored soon enough and want my hearing back lol.

It can't be that much fun because its front wheel drive.

Zedsdead, you are DEFINITELY a man of taste! 😉

"RS" is just a marketing moniker these days, long long long time since it meant "Rallye Sport"

It will, but if you want 'luxuries' such as electric windows, a heater, etc, wheels, etc; it'll be more like 30k.

R32 was 24 list, but in reality didn't exist as it was too basic for words.

Hope the driver or anyone else was not killed or hurt.

Just don't get one in orange.

If it's a chav car how come it's about £20K?

It's good on the motorway from reviews.

I wanted a ST220 Mondeo-so now that makes a chav and old man mundayeo...

20K car is next to nowt on finance when you have no other major expenditures. Chav over the road from me has an orange one.

My cousin had the first FRS:

[IMG] [/IMG]

A fantastic car! Point to point a quicker, more fun (and more skill required) car than the well modified Impreza I had at the time and the one he had prior to the RS. All that crap that Clarkson spouted about it (that is often taken as gospel by those whom have never driven one) is just that! Yes, you did feel the diff working away but if you believed him, it's sole purpose on the car was to drive you off the road.
My cousin went to the launch of the new RS and said it is stunning in the metal (especially in the green.) He seriously considered one but went for a 997 instead! Swine!
Someone on my shift has one on order and expects it to be delivered mid/late April. I look forward to having a go.

Zed - I nearly had an RS200 as my wedding car.. Unfortunately the engine dropped onto 3 cylinders the week before.. So I had 22B instead!

Exactly!!!!!

It's hard to find a powerful car that isn't a cockmobile!!!

I would beg to argue that the R32 is powerful but is not a cockmobile. But then I am biased. A reasonably specced manual R32 MK V was about £25k. For the R20 with DSG, recaros etc definitely be hitting £30K

Just got a very good write up in autocar - they reckon it could be one of the fastest point to point cars out there, all for £25k.....

I'd buy one if I could, certainly looks less gran tourismo than the Subamitsu's

Ford Focus / Escort = Always has been and always will be a chavs car, regardless of list price and options. ESPECIALLY in LIME GREEN or ORANGE.

Such a shame its out of production!

There haven't been any decent road tests done yet, there were a couple in Top Gear and Autocar but they were absolute rubbish "I had a passenger ride with a rally driver and it was well fast, what an exciting car!!!".

Hopefully evo or drivers republic will get a hold of one soon and give it a decent review. I'd be going for the white one, if its as good as it sounds it'll be a future classic.

Agreed, one of the exceptions to the rule 😉
(until it's price drops enough for the youngsters to start 'adapting' them!)

Two of the only sources I trust for car reviews, even if they don't rate my current car.

As much as I like the idea of the Focus RS, it's going to attract such a poor image from c0cks buying them that it'll be impossible to drive without attracting the wrong attention. Shame because initial reports are good 🙁

SIERRA RS500

My old man borrowed one for a while when his ur Quattro was having some *work* done (after he'd stacked it). V fast, as I remember, but (whale) tail happy!

There seems to be some overlap here between the RS model from the previous Focus and the model about to be launched now. (press event is ongoing in the South of France currently)...

The sound of the 5 cylinder engine in the new model is great too. Not quite orginal Audi Quattro but in the ball-park.

Granted the aforementioned Golf has 4wd which can be handy at times but in pure speed versus cost the new Focus is going to be fantastic.

over 300hp and of course a lot less drivetrain losses than a 4wd car......
Full dealer support & warranty unlike some cheapo imported Impreza or Lancer Evo.
For the money this is going to be a rocket 😀

I think you're right, but give or take that's what an R32's cost over the last couple of years. It's only now that road tax and fuel have gone up, as well an impending new model, that there are some cracking deals to be had.

The R20T should be on a par with the FRS's performance, and significantly faster then the outgoing model, as it just isn't powerful enough for the extra weight over a GTI.

Sorry, back to the Focus!
