Bookmarked to watch later, but had a quick skim of the article. In particular:
"The planes were painted sky blue to help them “blend in” but it didn’t seem to do much good. Colonel Blyth said he regularly came under fire and all he could do was keep flying and try to ignore it."

I grew up near RAF Northolt and had the RAF memorial flight flying in and out most summers. It is a defining noise from my childhood. Once you hear the Merlins in a Hurricance, Spitfire or Lancaster you never forget it and can pick it out very clearly from anything else.
Thanks enormously for that. I've just forwarded it to my 93yo fil who was a spitfire pilot. He trained in Falcon Field in Arizona and still goes out there (on his own) to give lectures, attend ceremonies etc. He'll be thrilled, thanks again.
