So, outside of the UK, assuming the distance is still 12 yds, this must be a pretty strange distance in metres for Europeans to understand (11 point something)? Or have they changed the standard dimensions to metric?

In Canada they kept Imperial units for the Canadian version of the NFL, but lengthened the pitch to 110 yrds for some reason.

yes they do this for the 6 yard and 18 yard box marking as well

How they work out the spot is half way between those two marks in metric who knows
You have been thinking to much havent you ๐Ÿ˜†

I asked a french guy this on saturday, he reckoned they had switched to metres resulting in a 10% bigger penalty area etc - I didnt really believe this? It was then bothering me watching delayed coverage of the Chelsea game at 1am after a few drinks.

So, french groundsman either carry imperial tape measures or have to remember some weird metric distances? That must really annoy them ๐Ÿ˜‰

Can't see the problem, they just need a proper tape

Or if they want to get all uppity about it, it's 10m 3' 2 3/10" - give or take 1/100" ๐Ÿ˜€

In German a penalty is called "der Elfmeterschuss" - or "the Eleven Meter Shot". I guess if it was 11.something (say four) they'd call it the "der Elfkommaviermeterschuss", being the literal language it is.
