Have changed a few things round outside the house and some proper lighting wouldn't go amiss in a covered but not enclosed area
Wickes/B&Q etc have 100W+ halogen floodlights for just a few quid or LED floods for 10x more. The lights wouldn't be on for more than an hour or so at a time but they need to be weatherproof
Any experience with the inexpensive floods or other recommendations?

Will follow this....
(have a look at screwfix LED floods...no reports personally, but seem OK)

Inexpensive + LED = wasted money.
We have been changing out light fixtures in work wholesale as LEDs that last 25 years. Within a couple of months they are toast and need replacing. Granted we run them 24/7 but they have proven about as reliable as the fluorescent/sodium fittings they replaced.
My take - get the 100W halogen and refit with an energy efficient lamp. If its for constant use then the short warm up time will be liveable. You also get a far better colour temperature than LED floods will provide.
I've got £8.50 Ebay 10 watt LED's around my house, no problems in the 12 months they have been up. Get the warm white rather than the cool white ones though.
