I have a head like a builders bucket, 90% of my sweat/heat is lost via my head, i have no hair (think uncle fester with stubble), i feel the cold (old git) and me lugs (ears) get cold.

So i have tried all sorts of beanies (all too tight/small and overheat?)

So i need an XL breathable beanie...

Suggestions please.

What you want is a bunnet*

It’s like a cuddle for your napper.

*a.k.a a flat cap.

A merino wool buff does the job for me.

I had an Endura baabaa one which was ace. I lost it in the under-stair cupboard of despair.....never to be seen again. 🙁

Get an old t-shirt, cut the sleeve off where it joins the body - keeps your ears warm, let's the heat out and keeps your hair out your eyes (I haven't needed the last part for quite some time!)

A buff is not a hat whilst under a helmet is ojay it makes you looks like a knob walking round with a bandana on.

Get someone to knit you one.

Shredhedz will sort you out and send some of the proceeds to mental health charities

Best I've owned is a TNF A5 beanie, was a light knitted style so nice and loose round your head (most others I find are too tight and give me a headache) and a lightish weave so not too warm (most others I find too warm unless it's very cold).

looks a bit like this

I reckon this is the answer. Real wool. I've got an old Fox one made of wool and its lovely, sounds perfect for ommtb, but I'm not parting with it!

Here it is. Blimey, this means it's about 12 years old! The small child is wearing the home knit equivalent.

i normally can't wear a decent wool beanie, as I get hot and my forehead itches, but I picked up one of these finisterre ones half price and it's amazing. Can wear it all day with no issues

Ussen Flight hat. Made of polypropylene. It is quite stretchy, and a bit longer than most beanies, so you can pull it down over you ears. https://www.chevintrek.co.uk/ussen-flight-hat-3567-p.asp

They also have a Ussen Baltic Hat, which is extremely warm.

Those Finisterre ones aren't exactly planet friendly with all those air miles .

  • Traditional fishermans rib
  • 100% Merino wool
  • Turned up brim
  • Fully fashioned
  • One size fits all
  • Australian sourced Merino, from non-mulesed sheep
  • Yarn spun and dyed in Italy
  • Knitted in Portugal

For £400 I’d expect it to come with at least two spare heads.

Yeah, well, two heads are better than one...
