Almera is group 4 insurance can get a decent 5 year old one for that money.

Try 'Honest John' and 'Parkers' sites for reviews.

I would say, your first option would be to speak to some insurance companies first, see which modles are the cheapest to insure & take it from there.

(edit)my first car Ford Fiesta 1.1L Cost £350, Insurance TPF&F £799! (edit)

What Ski said!

Ford Fiesta 1.25 if you do city driving and new to driving.

Or a Van like that previous thread!

Rover 25/MG ZR? Bit bigger than a fiesta and normally have a lot of extras as standard.

Avoid the 1.4 as there are 3 problems with the engine which means the head gasket can keep blowing up.

1.1 and 1.6 petrol and 2.0l diesel are all very cheap to buy and cheap to run. The technology is about 15 years old or so and easy to work on and there are loads and loads of spares knocking about in breakers.

You could even go for the 400, which shares half it's parts with the old old honda civic.

Obviously if you care about the badge on the front I wouldn't bother.

I don't know how long you've been driving for, but the insurance will be horrific for pretty much everything. Suggest you get some quotes for a few things first just to give you an idea of what your up against.
My first car was a hand me down Austin Metro 1.0 and that cost me over £600 tpft to insure 12 years ago now!
