first question, how old are you, the car is less important than whether you can insure it.

I passed my test at 32 3 years ago and got a V plate Octavia 1.9tdi which touch wood hasn't gone wrong yet.

We recently bought a W Reg Focus 1.8 Zetec, I've always had small cars until this.

It cost us £1500, had an MOT and some Tax and has been a great car. I hate paying over 1K for a car but it seemed to fit the bill (and my GF liked it.)

I'm 28, 5yrs NCB and it cost about £350 to insure with RAC.

After the Metro, Clio and Punto I find it a bit heavy on fuel.

Im 17 but ive been riding a moped for a year and a motorbike since august so that brings down premiums.Insurance Im not bored about as parents (thank god will be paying it) i have to pay everything else though,so any other ideas?

Remember to factor in tax, tyres (if needed or needed soon), MOT costs etc etc etc - just buying the car aint the most expensive bit!

I'd be looking at focuses out of that lot for that sort of money.
