10 months and no fags!

Found a half empty pack whilst tidying the top of a cupboard and couldnt think of anything worse than actually smoking one of them!

Its good to be liberated.

Still, everytime I get drunk I still miss the buggers!

Congratulations
Just dont be tempted to think that now you have given up you can have the odd one while on the beer.
I gave up five years ago and have thought of it like being an alcoholic that has stopped drinking. You cant even have one or you will be an addict again.
Although I think if I was to try to smoke a cigarette now i would cough my guts up for ten minutes after one drag.

Getting on for 25 years now and I still occasionally fancy a puff though it is usually only a fleeting aberration and it goes no further than a wistful thought.

Anyway, good luck with staying off the weed... you know it is worth it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I very much doubt that- else you'd have a healthy dollop of self-righteousness. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well done guys.

As it happens, I'm off to see my local clinic tomorrow to get some help packing the b'stards in.

Well done mate, you'll probably miss them less when drunk over time.

I've been off them around seven years now, gets easier and easier.

Wow Davy-g, that's uncanny. I gave up Feb 07 and got the bike Sept 07 - Did you also put on 2 stones in the interim?

but on the flipside if you do cave in you aren't suddenly a smoker again - done that too many times before.

Probably the most sensible piece of advice you can give someone who is giving up.

Indeed.

I gave up New Year's Eve 1998. Didn't smoke at all in 1999, had three fags in 2000, didn't smoke at all in 2001 but then gradually fell back into buying a pack when drunk, smoking them over a few weeks with beer, giving up for a month or two, buying another pack when drunk etc etc. Then about 18 months ago I stopped completely again. Missed them with beer for a while but I've been 'smoking drunk' a few times in the last 6months and just not fancied one.

id say dont be tempted when drunk.that was my problem.i gave up fairly easilly but when i got plastered id think "one wont hurt" that dragged it on for a couple more years on and off.
stay off them when drunk-just go and have a kebab instead, much healthier!! ๐Ÿ˜‰
