Yes we're organised

Bearing in mind that our sons have seen nearly every film on Netfix for children and are starwars and lego bonkers (films)

We need back up films etc

Jumanji is on the list, I'm sure one of the 10 friends will moan about watching it

recomendations please !!

PG rating only !

Are we looking for a film sufficiently offensive that you are never allowed to host a load of 8-year-olds again? That would be my strategy.

Dodgeball should do the trick while allowing you to claim that you had no idea it involved pizza masturbation and bondage gear. Also very funny.

Yes we're organised

You're delusional! 😀

11 8 years old are never going to agree on a film to watch.

Is it Goonies or Home Alone where they find a box of porn? I don't recall exactly what it was but there is something at the start of The Goonies that I blanched at when I put it only for my daughter.

I love the Goonies!

Still fun to watch and one of the most popular adventure movies ever made, it contained a surprising amount of questionable content for a kids’ film but for those who don’t mind the occasional obscenity, brutal crime, dead body, suicide, or drug and sexual torture reference in their children’s movies, Goonies will always be an 80s favourite.

Our eight year old enjoyed Hook and Aladdin recently. He's seen all the modern films so I'm trying out the older ones i watched. I've got the Dark Crystal videod for this weekend that I reckon he'll love. Waiting patiently for the Princess Bride to come on telly. I cancelled the Goonies after all the talk of coke and hookers and the fake suicide at the start - it was going to take too much explaining.

Zootopia

Or for a very different (and very captivating) experience, any of the Hayao Miyazaki films - Ponyo and Spitited Away are perhaps the most well known.

We watched The Little Prince on Netflix at the weekend. My boys are 3, 8 and 10. They all loved it. It's quite a chilled film, so could be perfect for winding 11 8 year olds down instead of up.

Pacific Rim; it's honking great robots battering what're essentially dinosaurs. It's a 12 but has no foul language or sex, just thinks beating each other.

It's probably worth noting that prior to the introduction of (12a) a lot of the decision making as to whether a film would be pg or 12 was based on who made the film and the anticipated revenue from it. This was even more true pre 1989 and the original 12 cert. So basically a lot of older pg films would definitely get 12a ratings today.

I'm going to put my boring old fart hat on for a sec...

If you're planning on showing a 12 or 15 cert film to a bunch of 8 years olds, clear it with their parents first. My lad is 8, and there are some things I know he can watch quite happily e.g. Iron Man. Ghostbusters, however, would have him sleepless for a week and that's a PG!

<edit>

In fact, I'd honestly say no 8 year olds should be seeing a 15 cert film.

My fave and part of cultural heritage is The Meaning of Life. Though save that for his 13th.
Recently watched "How to Train your Dragon" that was good for all the family. Shrek is good too.
Though Wall:E is one of my favourite films, it's too slow for a bunch of 8 year olds.
Aliens is the obvious choice, but only if Under the Skin is not available. 🙂

I'm sure it's been mentioned but 'Song of the Sea' is unusual and brilliant. Entertains me and my four year old.

The music is better than any Disney rubbish and the visuals, the story and inherent folklore are just brilliant.

At and early birthday sleepover (can't have been much more than 8 ) we convinced my mum to hire American Werewolf in London, saying it was a comedy (mum has never been interested in movies). Needless to say, we only got about halfway through that night. However, we watched the rest the next day and enjoyed it.

Edit: the moral of this story is don't hire American Werewolf in London for your child's birthday.

Swallows and Amazons was a desperate dissapointment.

Read all the books, lived a mostly land-locked life in Somerset, other than the odd trip to Lyme Regis, suffered a fever as we all probably did imagining a life on the high seas, eating pemican and ships' biscuits.

If you've got to choose, then perhaps something with Minions.
