I watched Ice Cold in Alex on TV yesterday. A great film. I always thought Sylia Syms was pretty dishy in a Leslie Phillips sort of way.

I met her about 20 years ago when she rented a flat from us during the Edinburgh Festival, she'd lost none of her charm.

Anyone else met a retro film star and still been dazzled?

I met an ex porn star in a bar in Ludwigshafen, she and her husband owned it, they had pictures up of her "working" behind the bar, we ripped the pish out of her but she gave as good as she got... she stayed open for us as well.. not exactly dazzling though!

I was locking my bike up outside a pub in Limehouse a couple of weeks ago, and Sir Ian McKellen walked past and gave me a dirty look. 😀

I once asked Brad Pitt if he raced in the AMA Superbike Championship. To be fair, I knew who he was, I only did it to annoy my colleagues who were all queuing up for his autograph.

I also interviewed Antonio Banderas, who seemed like a nice chap.

Well I know where the David Lean Cinema is, if that helps ........it's here, on account that he was a Croydon boy.

On the question of retro film stars, apparently Maurice Chevalier was a distant cousin of mine (mother's side)

[img] [/img]

Mind you, I never met him. And he never even rented a flat off me, so I guess it counts for bugger all.

I tried to get into Spike Lee's cab in NY years ago. He was bending down in the seat getting something out of his bayg, tying his shoelaces or something, so I din't see him and thought the cab was empty. Then he popped up. Poor bloke looked really quite frightened. 😐

Susannah York on Stainforth campsite in the Yorkshire Dales in 1980ish, I was about 15. I stuttered and stammered but got out enough to ask for her autograph.

Sir Ian McKellan has a property on Narrow Street in Limehouse facing the River just along from my GF's sisters place. I havent seen him yet but I always look out for him when I'm there.
I've served Kevin Spacey, Mel C and Nigel Planner when I used to work in a very well known bike shop chain in London.

Steelfan; I was locking up to go into Bootys pub, for lunch. McKellen drinks in there sometimes.

The grapes is nice too (lovely fish n chips), but The Narrow is sooo poncy these days I don't often bother. Nice beer mind.

None myself, but my wife used to work in retail in Bakewell - she met Sir Cliff, Victoria Wood, William Hurt, Ade Edmondson & Rik Mayall and Liam Gallagher.

None of them blew her away as I can remember, but Liam called her 'doll face' and was a bit slimy.

I think it was Ade who was a bit stroppy too - not sure about the others.

Elfinsafety- Yeah the Grapes is a nice place, havent had the fish there yet but will make a point of having some next time. Like you say the Narrow is way too poncy. It was much better before they built the conservatory extension and Ramsey got his hands on it!

I've partaken in all kind of prohibited substances with all kinds of supposedly famous people but it would be far too dangerous to divulge who on a forum. 😉

It was. I mean, the food there is quite good, granted, and they do a good range of beers, but it's just sooo poncy. Only pop in there now and then, if it's earlier on, as it fills up with suits of an evening. Bootys has a nice chilled out atmosphere, and the staff there know us and treat us very well. The Grapes is a little gem; proper pokey old riverside pub, and again with nice grub. Further along, the Prospect is of course a nice old pub, and the Captain Kidd is one of my faves. The Town of Ramsgate is another pokey little place, very narrow, but appealing.

Yeay, Ramsey has kind of missed the point of what a riverside pub should be really. It's soulless and popular simply because it's owner is a sweary bloke on telly. It was better before, and did good beer then.

Don't spose you know the scruffy dive on Three Colt St, the Three Bells and Blade Bone/Urban Bar? Can get proper lively in there, girls dancing on tables, open till silly o'clock, right laugh sometimes.

About 1995 I was mountain biking along the North Down Coastal Path on my trusty Orange Clockwork and who was on the trail but Billy Connolly. Thank god he got out of my way because antique Dia Compe 986's would never have stopped me in time. Couldn't believe it. The Culloden Hotel close by is a posh one serving Belfast, and he was playing at the Opera House at the time.

No film stars I'm afraid, but when I was biking up Glen Esk I'm pretty sure I went past Will Self and a woman, although he had his hood up because it was raining.
That's a bit shit, isn't it.

I sold a red Bik pen to Mr Sulu (George Takei) during the Edinburgh Festival when I worked for John Menzies. I also sold an Evening News to Magnus Magnuson.

I've had dinner - and breakfast - with David Essex. It was during the filming of Silver Dream Racer.

When I worked for TWA way back once upon a time, I was working the lost baggage office and Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor strolled in as we had managed to mis-send their luggage to god-knows-where. They sat in the office for quite some time while we traced and located it. I think Richard had been in the scotch a bit, but nice and Elizabeth Taylor---well need I say more--- both very friendly and willing to carry on a normal conversation during their "visit".
Checked Charleston Heston in on a TWA flight when working the First Class ticket counter.

I saw Katherine Hepburn in a wool shop in Corwen about 30 years ago. That's a rubbish one too, but better than Will Self in an anorak.

There's a guy in the airforce based at Lossiemouth, near where I live, who looks the spit of Kevin McKidd who was Tommy in Trainspotting and has been in Grays Anatomy and some other stuff.

[img] [/img]

When a bit tipsy I used to think it was amusing to go up to him in the local nightclub in Elgin and pretend to be a groupie "You're that bloke out of Trainspotting, Giz yer autograph" etc. Hilarious eh? Anyway, this one time... he found it even less amusing than usual, probably because it was actually Kevin McKidd, whom I was not aware comes from Elgin originally. Doh!

I also met Robin Williams when he was filming the Bill Forsyth film, 'Being Human' up Glen Nevis in the mid 90s. He was very gracious and signed my paper video cover insert for 'The Dead Poets Society' with "Carpe Diem, Robin Williams"

An ex's little brother got chased round a field by Oliver Reid.

I've been given a dirty look by Ewan McGregor. And inadvertantly nicked concert tickets meant for Lloyd Cole's brother. Plenty more but I'll leave it at that.

I've met Honor Blackman and Emma Thompson. I think they're the only film stars I've met.

Kirk from coronation street goes shopping in our local Coop though and I've bumped into him a few times.

I think you know who the bigger star is there.
