A couple of weeks ago our cooker started acting up, the fan oven didn't work and the switch on the biggest ring on the hob became rather eratic so we decided to replace it.
The new cooker arrived with a moulded on plug that didn't match the cooker socket (we are not in the UK so it's not connected directly to the wall) so we needed an electrician to come and connect it as the cooker has a 3 core able and the socket needs 5 cores

Anyway, to cut a long story slightly shorter, it seems that one of the phases had tripped the circuit breaker and the old oven was (probably) fine.

Very embarrassing and rather expensive FAIL on my part to not check the fuse cupboard before shelling out £600 plus installation costs 😳

Shame you couldn't get an odd job man to sort it out.

EDIT - if it was me I'd persuade myself that an expesive fault in the old cooker kicked out the breaker.

[pedant]not all UK cookers wire directly into the wall. Ours (a Beaumatic) has a standard 3 pin plug.
