It's the 1st of December so such things can be discussed now.

What's your favourite Christmas song?

Here's some to start us off.

Low - Just like Xmas

From my youth

Pretenders - 2000 miles

Run DMC Xmas in Hollis

Paul McCartney in disguise. 😉

And an instrumental you may have heard a bit of in the last few minutes. 😉

I think it is hard to beat a good rendition of "carol of the bells" to bring a sense of a mythical traditional happy christmas.

I avoid them tbh. But when Shane sings 'It was Christmas eve babe, in the drunk tank' I can't help but smile. Such a great line and the perfect voice for it.

For very personal reasons, my favourite Christmas song is Mariah Carey.

I'm so sorry.

"We kissed on the corner and danced through the night" genuinely, and for no good reason I can think of, brings a tear to my eye. But then, I just listened to the start of Mogwai's beautiful Christmas Song and that just did the same, so maybe that's just me. 🙂

Love this -

I like an upbeat christmas song so it is either

Elvis - Santa bring my baby back to me

or Bob Dylan - Must be santa

Don't know how to embed 🙁

Every Christmas Eve I end up dreaming
She'll kiss me awake
But when morning comes
I'm just the fool who repeats his mistake
In the year since she left me
My wish list has remained the same
If I can't have her back
Please allow me to forget her name

I like setting Alexa to play Dominick the Donkey and I want a hippopotamus for Christmas at random times through the day.

And not just in the lead up to Christmas!

Mid rehearsals for half a dozen Christmas concerts ranging from - drunken carol rampage on a train Huddersfield to sSouth Yorks and back via a concert in a pub, to a Church Choir carol service, with a Male Voice Choir and a professional singing group (The Mastersingers) joint concert and three other pub carol-singing events, I may be a bit jaded on favourites. However, I found this last year and a couple of us decided Adrienne would look pretty good in a cassock:

A Very Special Christmas Volume 1 starts the Christmas music chez Sandwich after the December birthdays are done. The kids (32 and 30!) would ask for it every year from around age 4.
This is bittersweet

Ok I've had 2 mince pies:

Anything by Phil spector
Low as the op
12 days of Christmas -the Muppets
Christmas thanks for nothing - slow club
Christmas at the zoo - flaming lips
Merry Christmas - the Ramones
Santa Claus go straight to the ghetto - James brown
I was born on Christmas day - st Etienne

And don't forget, it's cliché to be cynical at Christmas - hmhb

Slade and the Pogues, you all know and love them so no point linking them, too uncool to admit liking them though it would appear (apart from desperatebicycle).
