Hendrix was way ahead of the game, he can be credited with THE interpetation/vision of, at that time, a much over done pychedelic anthem, Hey Joe. It blew everyone else away. At that time, all the west coast bands had their version of Hey Joe, which was what they all did at the same fast beat. He slowed it down and it was never done again after that, he owned it.

I'm not saying it is the best but I love War Pigs by Black Sabbath. That is a real fave, as is Voodoo Chile by Hendrix and an awful lot by Prince but not too sure you would call him Rock, e.g Sign of the Times?

Sky Babies by the Wildhearts. 8)

But if it has to be something anyone else has heard of, then Don't Stop Believing by Journey.

not 'rock' in the sense of the above, but this one gets me every time:

see, while "don't stop believing" is great, it's a lazy suggestion as it's simply their most well-known song. it's not their best, or most anthemic- that would be either of these two:

[url=

ways (worlds apart)

[url=

way you want it

Theres alot of good Led Zep songs, I think Stairway to Heaven is the most over rated.

A couple of others (not really rock anthems but pretty 'epic' all the same)

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird and Neil Young - Cowgirl in the sand

now as much as I like 'anyway you want it' and 'seperate ways' they are in turn lazy choices too

for me it Augeri era Journey with the song above awesome and anthemic

or this by Mew

My fave if there's others around; someday this will be the first song played at my wedding...

Though personal favourite is 'New Millenium Cyanide Christ' by the titanic Meshuggah.

Maiden - 2 minutes to midnight and Sick of it All - Step Down are current faves!

Anthems?

Well, apart from Anthem, by Rush, it needs to be one of the following
Freebird - Lynyrd Skynrd
November Rain - Guns
Bat out of Hell - Meatloaf (Not to my taste, but anthemic)
One - Metallica
The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg - Iron Maiden
The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner - Iron Maiden (Like prog, mixed with Coleridge. Epic!)
Bohemian Rapsody - Queen

In fact, I could find a lot in my collection, but I'm now drunk, so may go to bed!

Plenty of good ones above. I'd go with The Ace of spades by motorhead though. Or possibly we will rock you by Queen.

slimtubing, not sure if i'd say 'sober' was an anthem but that's certainly one of the greatest music videos ever produced.

Birth To The Earth - The Atomic Bitchwax

As the OP asked for ANTHEMS, I would have to say that a great deal of the suggestions are not anthemic.

But I would have to suggest AC/DCs Let There Be Rock.

Skunk Anansie - Weak is a classic.

Back to the poodle-permed days of yore: [url=

- Love Walked In

An unfortunate choice perhaps, but a favourite of mine.
