Thinking of going for a walk with the kids tomorrow in the Peaks somewhere. Any recommendations for a nice alehouse or restaurant, kid-friendly (eldest is 3), for afterwards? Manchester based so closer to that side would be best. Cheers.
The Old Hall in Chinley is lovely, really nice food and nice atmosphere. Beehive in Coombs also reccomended. So is the Sportsman in Hayfield.
The Rams Head in Disley is really good for food and family friendly. Open log fires as well. Highly recommended and handy for the trip back to Manchester.
+1 for the Old hall
Some nice beers on at the moment
The George in Castleton is pretty easy going, straightforward pub grub, no problem with muddy boots etc. If that doesn't suit there's a number of other pubs in the village across the price range. Ashford Arms in Ashford in the Water is ok too but probably off your route. Did have a poor meal at one in Castleton a while ago but can't remember the name, I'll have a think. Bulls Head in Castleton is OK, depends where you set your sights really. The poor meal was at Ye Old Nags Head but it was nearly a year ago. Have used The Ramblers in Edale which was Ok, muddy boots & easy with children, we also used The Old Nags Head in Edale for a beer a couple of weeks ago, didn't eat but looked ok.
Red Lion in High Lane, Disley has excellent grub (run by same people who own Mr Sams Chop House in Manchester) and kids menu. It's on the way back from the Peaks and if you like tasty food rather than pub grub it's the place to go. Just need to watch the opening times as its main food is only served between 12-3 and then from 5.30. Enjoy.
