Trawling through so many websites and just cannot find 'the one'. We are also surprised at the cost of many of the sites (we paid £27+ per night last weekend for a tent pitch with no facilities)
Ideally we want something suited for a 9 year old to go 'feral' with other children, but do not want things like an amusement arcade/bar etc
Thinking of Toms Field near Swanage and the 'other' Toms Field in the New Forest, but would welcome any recommendations based on experience(s)
TIA
unfortunately camping in the South is not a cheap exercise in general. If you find one keep it to yourself!
Have you tried ukcampsite.co.uk? It is where I always find my campsites from 😀
We are currently at California Barn campsite just along the coast from Toms Field. It was the campsite for SSUK. Toilet block but no showers, lovely & quiet and right on coastal path. We have just paid £15 per night for our VW The with awning, tents are cheaper. Highest price is fora 5m plus motorhome which is £18.
Lovely site here

Middle of the New Forest, loads of room to run around, bike hire, bike tracks, fishing lake, dipping pond...

Not too pricey (£20 a night for 2 adults + child), basic but adequate facilities and plenty of scope for kids to go feral in the woods/stream.
Its possible to cycle to Studland beach or to Corfe Castle offroad.
I rode past this last summer. South of Basingstoke inbetween Farleigh Wallop, Dummer and Preston Candover. It looks very basic but seems to get okay reviews. Lots of bridleways and byways nearby but not much else.
