Just got new vegas, not played it yet, is it worth getting the other games and playing them first? Cheap enough to get hold of but I'm guessing they will look and feel dated? is it worth playing them through first do you think?

Thought I read somewhere that Vegas was no different (aesthetically) to Fallout 3 - which was a great game if you like that kinda thing.

If you like Vegas and the above is true, then I can definitely recommend getting 3 if it's going cheap.

Can't speak for the others.

Vegas may suck up hugs parts of your life, not sure I'd bother getting the others just for the sake of it.
It is slow going to begin with but worth it once you get into it.
I'm finding it hard not to go on a killing spree through friendly little settlements though.

Fallout 3 is very good, but I'd concentrate on plaing new vegas first seeing as you've already got it.

Fallout 1 & 2 are very different games - top down rpg games released in the late '90s.

If you get the older ones I'd go for Fallout3: GOTY edition as it has all the extras included with it (which add even more game time onto an already very long and involved game).

It is very good though. Some of the weapons in the addons are simply brilliant.

Morrowind/Oblivion have already hoovered up a lot of my time in the past, I'm guessing as fallout is also from bethesda it will do similar, so probably not best to do the full series I guess, might give 3 a go tho.

Same engine and similar interface to Oblivion

As you have Vegas I wouldn't rush to get 3. There's no huge continuation in story line between the series so there won't be any gaps missing in terms of storytelling. If you got bored of Vegas try 3 as mentioned above the GOTY edition, it's very very simular, which isn't a bad thing, it will feel like more missions than a different game.

Don't bother with 3 unless you feel like you're done with new vegas and want some more action.

There's no plot confusion and from what I can tell New Vegas, despite being a smaller map has way more variety in plot outcomes. I'm discussing things with a colleague so far and it's like we're playing different games - side characters getting involved in completely different plot lines and we can't even work out what decisions may have driven that. Very impressed.

Fall out 3 was good but I had no urge to replay.

Fallout 3 was good to begin with, but IMO hugely repetitive.

I do think fast travelling is both a blessing and curse. Yes walking everywhere is an epic ball ache. But then once you uncover a significant portion of the map, it just becomes a game of errand running at times as you just fast travel, talk to someone or collect something and then fast travel back and gain EXP for quest complete.

I liked Morrowinds concept of a transport system by riding those giant bugs, at least you could only fast travel to major towns and then trek out from there.

yep, oblivion doesn't feel half as vast as morrowind, dunno how the actual map sizes compare but mw felt huuuuge. Having all your objectives marked on the GPS/map thingy seems a bit of a cheat too.

For those with New Vegas- is any good? Really like 3, and have New Vegas coming in the post- but lots of negative talk about crippling bugs means I may just send it back!

No bugs I've found with NV so far (360). And I've completed it once (will all the side quests I could do) and am playing thru a second time along a different story arc.

If you like 3, NV is the same, but more so and more refined. A bit like the difference from FO1 to FO2.

FWIW FO2 is the best of the series, though the story etc. is improved if you play FO 1 first. Ending of FO1 is one of the best video game endings ever.
