He'll either win it or crash out, but then, that's why I like him as a driver.

Who on earth are those "alternate" commentators that were on a few minutes ago. Went to the kitchen to get more coffee come back to a totally different set of people. That said, they sounded much more excited about the whole thing (extra geek points for them wittering about Leroy Jenkins too)

There were some technical problems so I guess the beeb lost the sound feed from Japan and used some hyped up dudes in London instead. They were very excited weren't they!

The Feed had a bit of a spaz and lost the sound, BBC switched to 5 Live's commentary, always better than listening to JL

Can we have them instead of Ledgard? Them and Brundle would be pretty good I think

donsimon - More of Kobayashi's diving inside at the hairpin, the last time passing Heidfeld when he was miles behind.

It was David Croft and Antony Davidson (former Super Aguri driver) in the R5 Live team.

If you ever go to any GP, and hire a Kangaroo TV, they do the english commentry feed for them. They are at the circuit, just like the BBC1 commentry.

There was sound problems most of the way through the race - at the start i could hear Ted Kavitz listing who was on which tyres, while Legard was talking, i'm sure i heard croft and antony at one point under Legard and brundle, when ted came on to do a report he had an echo

I fear its all over for Lewis and Jenson now - unless they have some stellar upgrades for the next race I can't see them catching the Red Bulls.

Some great racing by Kobayashi again though - just think what he could do in a really quick car!

There wasnt actually any issues with the sound, it was an issue with the main BBC feed from Japan. During the issue BBC switched to the EBU international feed, when doing this the BBC do not get there own presentation feeds or commentary, which is why you heard different commentary.

it was clearly the five live commentary. The same five live commentary you can get on the red button. It was Davidson and Crofty.

That aside though, cracking race. I do think it's out of the mclaren's reach

Fail? I didnt mention which commentary was used instead, i can assure you the pictures you were seeing were the EBU (European Broadcast Union) feed which is an international feed made avalible to many different broadcasters that dont have there own feed coming from site. The BBC use this feed as a Backup to there main Feed, you didnt have the correct commentary due an issue with there main feed.

I could tell you the exact transmission parameters used today, the Satellites used, the exact timings of the issue, i could even tell you what it was as i was one of the engineers dealing with it but i wont as you obviously know more than me as shown by your funny you tube video.

there is the general F1 feed for the race - you can always spot this, as it has the F1 logo in corner. when the BBC presenters are on screen - jake, DC and Eddie, or Martin's grid walk - that comes from the BBC crew. that doesnt feature the F1 logo in the corner.

The F1 feed is the same whether it is being shown on the big screens at the circuit, on the Kagaroo TV, BBC, and all the other boardcasters.
As said tho - there was a hiccup in the transmission - when it came back on we initally just had the F1 feed, with no commentry - then Crofty and Ant could be heard, before returning to Legard and Brundle. But seems the BBC were having a fair bit of problems - as like i said i could hear some of the other BBC guys talking behind the main commentry - i'm sure i heard Ted saying who was on what tyres, i also heard Croft and ant talking too on the BBC1 feed - Brundle also stopped talking at one point and said he could hear another broadcast in his headphones.

Lord, yup, Formula One Broadcast is the broadcaster that travels around to all the races, it then gives this feed to various other broadcasters, i once had an interview for them, there based in Biggin Hill. Broadcasters that have presenters and produce their own program have there own small Outside Broadcast unit and Satellite Uplink Truck, like the BBC. However there is a EBU feed that is distributed worldwide for broadcasters that do not have their own OB or uplink truck on site.
