Possibly not for long...he's under investigation for going too fast under yellow flags (in q1 I assume)

Why wait until just a couple of weeks before the event to lay a new track?

The original surface failed inspection is what some have said. Just needed a few repairs done but they went with a full repave. Don't forget the track has had very little use since the last time F1 was there.

I am so looking forward to the first few laps. Sadly have to go out a bit before 10:30 but I'll catch the rest later.

DRS has spoiled this for me. They should have left it off.

His tax arrangements. Plus I suspect he might turn one down, if offered.

Simply amazing! Well done Lewis. A thoroughly well deserved race win and 7th drivers title. What a drive!

I'm going to predict Verstappen will never be a World Champion - he just isn't learning to have patience. He's fast and exciting but too hot headed even after all these years in F1. As Lewis showed today sometimes you have to let the race come to you.

What a legend. How can anyone have any doubts about Hamilton? Awesome. And also, massive respect to him for his work for BLM etc. Someone any kid can look up to and try and learn from.

I’m going to predict Verstappen will never be a World Champion – he just isn’t learning to have patience. He’s fast and exciting but too hot headed even after all these years in F1.

He makes my teeth itch, I used to really rate him before he disappeared up his own arse. The same goes the orange army/Horner/Marko.

Great race today, as mentioned earlier I never thought I’d be so happy to see Seb get a podium. I read somewhere Binotto wasn’t there today, don’t know if it’s true or not but apparently Ferrari have scored more points this season when he’s not there?

Masterclass from Hamilton, nervy last few laps with the threat of rain. So glad he won the championship the way he did today.

I accidentally caught the result just before watching the highlights and by the end of the first lap I was genuinely on the edge of my seat knowing that it was going to be a good one! So much fun to watch and a brilliant result for the whole podium.

When Schumacher won 7 titles no-one thought that would be matched for a very long time. Be interesting to see if Lewis does hang around to go for 1 more.

Only goes up in my estimation if that's true, Wonderful drive to win a race he had no business winning. What a genius. GOAT indeed.

Agreed, he can't seem to not get over-aggressive, and throw it away

Same. I also think there will be major toys out of pram if a Perez or Hulk beats him over a season by being consistent rather than win it or bin it.

Before the race I’d have bet on Verstappen pulling out a Brazil 2016 performance and romping off into the distance, even though a freshly laid surface is quite a different proposition. But the in-car footage made his angry right foot very evident. His uncontrolled frustration was the antithesis of Hamilton’s approach, and his was a classy way to take the title. Chapeau—or perhaps rather, casquette rouge.

I must say, though, that I’m irked by the various articles and social media posts that out Hamilton and Schumacher on an equal pedestal. Both utterly dominant in every respect of the sport, both mathematically comparable, but only one of them—among other questionable on-track incidents—twice deliberately drove into his title rival in a championship-deciding race.

He's an annoying, arrogant **** at times, but I think he's overdriving the car a bit because it's just not as fast as the Merc. I think that if you put him in the Merc alongside Bottas, he'd cruise to the championship. I agree, his title prospects look slim, but that's more about the Merc dominance than his lack of talent.

On top of that, I think Hamilton has had much more competitive teammates than Schumacher did. To be fair to Schumacher, he got priority because he was faster than any teammate, but Hamilton raced against Alonso, Button, and Rosberg, who were all World Champions, and always looked first class on the track. Matching Alonso in his rookie year was pretty impressive.

That main difference between Schumacher and Hamilton is Hamilton never punted anyone off to win an attempt to win the championship.

I thought the main difference was that Schumacher left a back-back Championship winning team to go and rebuild Ferrari? Then spent a few seasons getting the Mercedes ready for Lewis.....

Anyway, of course they'll be on the same pedestal - having the same number of championships will do that

We’ll have to wait until next year.  I can see Lewis conundrum; he’s done it all, but will never be the top dog until he gets that 8th Championship.  Next years schedule should it go ahead looks tiring - bear in mind all the travel etc - and he’s starting to get on a bit notwistanding the change in the cars for 2022.

Do you bow out now as Schumacher’s equal or risk failing that 8th Championship and then effectively being old/not in the same competitive equipment?      I think he has to go for it next year, but that’ll be the final year.
