And the predicted merry-go-round has started, it's official.

Looks like Renault tried to take Ricciardo as part of the deal, Red Bull understandably baulked at this and Sainz was loaned instead (from Motorsport).

Red Bull are acutely aware that Ricciardo is out of contract at the end of 2018, with Verstappen following suit in 2020. Neither driver will want to risk doing an Alonso and farting around at the back of the grid for very long with a Honda engine, so unless Honda shows rapid progress for 2018, they'll be off. I daresay we'll see Sainz in a Red Bull in 2019.

Notable timesheet from Q2. 18 of the cars almost entirely in two-by-two order, all with teammates separated by less than 0.6 seconds. Renaults split by 1.3 seconds and 9 places ๐Ÿ˜

So Lewis has a lot to do tomorrow!

I can easily see Max colliding with Seb at the start though. Hot headedness and angry that Seb stole 'his' pole.

40% chance of rain and a heavy downpour a couple of hours before the race has cleared the track. Hopefully spice things up.

Anyone but the pointy fingered German to win please.

Vettel has got more to lose than max at the start but given maxs recent run of luck I think he'll be a little more cautious than he can be at the start. If it rains, #AlonsoFTW

If it rains hard enough to go to interact then it should dry quickly. Getting the switchover on the tyres correct is going to be critical! It'll either be amazing or carnage.

If it rains, #AlonsoFTW

If it rains, #SafetyCarFTW

...it will kill the race as they are over cautious even in daylight. ๐Ÿ™

That was mental, so much brain fade from Vettel.

Should make it a simple win for Hamilton now.

Well that changed the WC in about 5 seconds - and it was all Vettel's own fault

Could easily be Ricciardo win also, Lewis won't want to go wheel to wheel with him now. Even 2nd would be a great result for Lewis.

Good point, get a bag full of points without risking a DNF.

Got to feel sorry for Alonso. He really must be the unluckiest driver out there. The one course his car is good for, in conditions he excels in, and he gets walloped by a three-wheeled Ferrari

and the only reason he was there to get walloped is because he was so good on the start

If it was anyone but Vettel in the battle I'd agree. But I just can't stand him.

And even if the Championship fizzles out a bit it doesn't mean there won't be good races.

Seeing as the start incident is under investigation afterwards what's the possibility of Vettel getting a penalty?

WTF is going on with this perpetual safety car? Whatever happened to the vitual safety car?

How much time is Hamilton going to lose in total? This is total BS not racing.

Ferrari tweeting it was Verstappen's fault but they're all up to the stewards, maybe the Help button is broken ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dunno if the titles over yet. Lewis hasn't had a dnf this year, how often does anyone get through a season at the sharp end without one?

Lewis hasn't had a dnf this year,

Which means that his car is reliable and he's driving well. Which means that he is less likely to have a DNF than others. Ferrari are now in a position where they have to take risks, so they have more chance of DNFs than Merc, who can afford to cruise and give away minor points to avoid taking risks.

Pity. I'd rather see Vettel, who comes across as quite likeable, than Hamilton, who doesn't, win it.

Both good drivers though. No one could say this year that they were poor drivers in a car that they couldn't lose in.

Having met Hamilton in person earlier this year I have to say the media portrays him in a very negative light. He was really approachable and took time to chat about the forthcoming season. I have to say I really didn't think much of him up until then and it totally changed my opinion of him.

Nope. Based on interviews, never met either of them, just find Vettel more likeable.

Yup!
Watched the start on YT and Vettel trying to put a move on a better starting Red Bull, precipitated results which would not please Ferrari.
Sometimes I wonder what's happening inside the helmet of car 5. Esp in light of Baku.
Seems to me, that being a great requires at times that the driver arrests the red mist so as see the larger picture.
in that regard LH seems to be a better racer than SV.

Adjudged racing incident and no further action to be taken. No surprise there then. I'm sure Vettel could get away with carrying a gun in future and shooting out rivals' tyres - as long as he is driving for Ferrari that is.

I would oh so love to see Bottas overtake Vettel in the World Championship because he's a smug git who thinks he can get away with anything.

Ferrari, after taking a bit of heat on twitter are saying that they're first tweet was "a factual description of events, no need to speculate on this"

Arrogant cretins.
