Who gets to define liberty?
who gets to define extremism?
One man's terrorist ...
meh
I do like kittens though!
I think we should be focusing more on the vice.
I prefer tolerance in the face of tyranny is no virtue
This is a misquote of him BTW.
I suspect this sort of line [op quote] is used by Isarael in justifying their teatemnt of Palestine. I suspect the Palestinains use the one above so we have both sides using the persons quote to justify their treatment of each other.
What do you mean, "discuss"? That's a pretty crap thread opener. Stick up a vaguely controversial header and then walk off?
Add some content!
And vice.
would you smash a window for an umbrella?
ooooh, can you get Liberty umbrellas ?

Extremism is never justified, surely? By the common definition of the word - of course most extremists don't consider themselves so, I'd have thought. If you want to defend yourself honourably then you need to be calm and reasonable, using the minimum of force against those who genuinely are involved in the threat.
This does not mean attacking indiscriminately those who happen to be the same race/colour/tribe/nationality as those who are attacking you.
If by extermism, it means rallying/protesting then fine it's only right that we strive for fairness and to protect our liberty.
If it means blowing people up, then no. There is no defence or excuse for behaviour like this.
Extremism in vice is indefensible.
I find some of the actions by members of organisations such as United Against Fascism interesting if not amusing.
There views on members of groups such as the BNP/EDL can be as extreme as the views of the Fascists. Except they think they are justified as they have some moral high ground.
Seeing as some members from both sides are equally unwilling to rationally discuss there opinions, and seem to just want to fight, they are just as bad as each other.
On the other hand, I have time and respect for any person and their opinion (even if I don’t agree) if it is open to discussion/debate.
Edit: Extremism in defense of liberty can be used an excuse for worse actions than those being defended against.
Seeing as some members from both sides are equally unwilling to rationally discuss there opinions, and seem to just want to fight, they are just as bad as each other.
So declaring war on Germany in 1939 was a big mistake then ?
I'm up for extreme liberty. In fact I've taken a few over the years.

I think you'll find it was Britain and France, after Germany refused to withdraw troops after invading Poland.
