general rule seems to be external back up space twice as much as internal drive?
anyone seen a cheaper decent 1tb external than the iomega comet are doing? This one, think it was actually £45 when last looked
actually wd from amazon is pretty cheap but quite a few seem to have died going by the reviews
I use online back-up, its amazing!
www.dropbox.com
It backs up as you save it to your documents, genius!
yeah that's nice but got a mac so time machine is cracking
A sensible minimum would be twice your HD capacity. I'd treat myself to two drives, mirror them and leave one off-site.
and be aware you need to refresh the backup drives every now and then - if they're just left you can get demagnetisation. A sector scan will force the drive to refresh any bits where the signal level is flagging.
Ooh, treat yourself to SuperDuper too. Simple to use and amazing support.
Dunno if it's still the case, but ASDA Living were doing 1Tb LaCie external drives for £30 not so long ago.
IIRC windows skydrive was giving 25gb for free online backup type stuff.
