I know there are some knowledgeable Excel users out there.

Does anyone know if you can effectively crack a protected sheet, if you forget the password that you have added?

yep - VBA crackers are easy to use. Have done so in the past on a number of occasions.

You may not end up with the original password, just a string with the same checksum, but it will work.

Thanks all, after trying simple things in Excel itself, I actually didn't think about googling it.

Appropriately chastised

On the other hand, if you want something better than the built in Excel password thing, try this package: http://www.lockxls.com/product.asp

I use it for packing workbooks for customers to control access etc.
