On my last flight my belt went missing. Today the guy in front has lost his wallet. How common is this?
I don't empty my pockets anymore just accept that I'm going to get well searched.

I fly about 2 times a month and have never heard of this before, the X-Ray machine is usually between 1-2mtr long, how could it even happen?

Everything goes into jacket pockets then jacket into the tray, quick check when it all comes out too.

missing? you mean you left it in the tray and walked off... unless your saying someone pocketed it.

Lost my boarding card in one once. I casually chucked the contents of my pockets in the direction of the tray, missed, and it fell through the rollers.

aren't they just a roller belt, running through a scanner... the scanner would shirely show any miscellaneous items floating around inside itself!
I'd be more than a bit miffed and making a fuss!

Getting nicked from the tray as it comes through. Tray goes through before you clear the door frame metal detector?

Not sure why a belt would be stolen however!!

not me, but the guy behind lost something at edinburgh airport - seemed to have 'spilled' from the tray - one of the security guys had one of those long handles litter pickers and retrieved it from the innards of the machine.

I don't put anything through until the person in front has cleared the scanner. Customs folk often wave me along but I just say I'm waiting until the way is clear.

Also have everything either in my bag or suit pockets, except boarding pass which 'lives' in my shirt pocket.

Never had a problem in too-many years of travelling.

I nearly won an iPhone after the guy in front of me forgot to take it out of the tray.

Empty your pockets in to your carry-on bag. Leave nothing loose!

There was a big scrum of trays and general chaos today. It wouldn't be too difficult to help yourself something from a tray.
There was enough unattended to help yourself from.

Friend of mine had his watch stolen from one of the x-ray trays at Heathrow. Pretty stupid really, have you any idea just how many CCTV cameras cover the security area? It took less than 10 minutes for the police to watch the tapes, track the guy towards one of the gates and arrest him. Idiot.

You're better keeping your passport there, I've lost boarding passes and just had another one printed at the gate.

If anything comes out your tray it is generally due to the lead curtains, any unsecured light items can easily be pushed off the tray but as for loosing them in an xray, that is almost impossible, it's just a tunnel with a moving belt, again the only thing that a light item could get caught on is the lead curtain and even that is rare as next tray will normally always push the item through.
