WWSTW do?
3rd June - AM - Ordered 2 tyres, showing in stock - Boom £60, money taken starlight away!
Waited a few days given expected slower than normal and wondered when...
A week or so passes so I log in to check, just says 'Waiting', keep checking back no update, website now shows "Out of Stock"
12th June - I give up, can't ring them at moment no online Cancel option... So I email them to say, please cancel and refund. I get this automated reply...
"Thank you for your email.
We will aim to respond to you within 10-15 days, if not sooner.
This is an automated acknowledgement to let you know that we have received your enquiry.
There is no need to reply to this email."
10-15 days!!
16th June - Today - Email saying... Order Part dispatched... They're sending 1 tyre...
I can return it but at my own cost...
In the meantime I ordered the tyres from Merlin on the 12th and got them yesterday.
So........
1) Shall I refuse the delivery...? (Royal mail)
2) Put it down to experience and never go near the new Sports Direvans again?
3) Whinge on here and just add top the tyre collection?
All three.
You're halfway through 3) already, so...
I’ve been trying to get some form of communication out of them since 23 April with no joy, so good luck.
Set the credit card company on them
Definitely 1...but ask the postie if it’s ok to put some frozen sausages in the parcel first.
2) Take your money to literally anyone other than Mike Ashley.
They're not alone in being shite at the moment.
There is a small number of online retailers who are frankly taking the piss and in some ways using a global health emergency to their advantage.
I'm the buyer in work so, well I buy a lot of shit. It's the same MO - go to site, is in in stock - Yes, are they claiming next day delivery YES - order, pay and then boom here an e-mail saying "due to the current blah blah blah" and here's a link to a web page you can only access post-paying to explain how "next day" is going to be a week and, by the way, thanks for the extra £5 for Next Day Delivery.
Don't get me wrong, if a retailer has to reduce the number of warehouse staff for social distancing etc that're more than perfectly acceptable, it's just no fair to claim you can do next day, when you can't.
Hammer frozen sausages into mike ashleys lawn /thread
Well I've just put the Merlin - Schwalbebebebebeee (whatever) G-One tyres on the bike...
They don't look like they're going to last very long.... they look like mini Onza Porcs which from memory wore out while you looked at them...
So I suspect by the time Evans deliver the original Pananananaracer Gravelkings I wanted there G-Ones will have a similar tread pattern to Telly Savalas
But looks like Evans are off my list for good now... Shame
It's the taking the money straight away and then worrying about processing the order at some undetermined point in the future.
I thought this was illegal unless the goods were in some way bespoke? Legally they are only meant to take the payment when the goods are shipped?

No idea?
Paid via Paypal just for ease, they took straight away. In contrast though, I ordered a Dell laptop recently and they only took from Paypal when they sent the dispatch this week..
Evans is rubbish. For example, took the 9yo to a shop after Xmas for new bike. Shop guy wouldn't look at her never mind speak to her. Kept rolling his eyes when I asked questions. He was the manager and the shop was dead. Eventually he sold us a bike that wasn't in stock.
It's a perfect storm of reduced staff, reduced stock, increased demand that is causing everyone problems. Locum76 I think you mean the Evans person you dealt with was rubbish, plenty of good people work there including me.
We've used Evans in the past, and while not perfect, were good at sorting us out a Trek which had sold out completely in mrs_oab's size, particularly when we visited the Edinburgh store to collect.
I wouldn't use them now.
Well postie delivered 1 tyre yesterday. It was just left on the doorstep so no chance to refuse it.
I bought my Norco from the Gatwick store.... because I had to. Thankfully I am fairly clued up with bike stuff, so required no 'advice', which was lucky, as the 3 members of staff I had brief dealings with appeared to be totally clueless. One lady needed the bike to be referred to as the 'green one' rather than a Norco.
I am sure there are pockets of knowledgeable staff, who know their stuff and can give top notch advice, they just seem to be rare. I guess its like most shops tho, you can employ passionate people who love the sector they work in, or you just employ people.
I will use Evans in the future, but only for things I require zero assistance with.
Not that the above helps with your issue OP. I would just hold onto the tyre if you know you will use it at some point and maybe use a different retailer in future.
Not defending 'green bike' as a description but I've often found that when looking for a bike there is a sea of grey and black bikes so if something is a different colour I can find it much quicker.
Evans site filters for bikes at least are borked and I avoided that like plague since Ashley bought them.
If you paid by PayPal you can claim the return postage back.
OMG! You bought a GREEN BIKE! Madness... What if you lose it in the woods?
If you paid by PayPal you can claim the return postage back.
True, but you won't get a refund for the postage of the outbound item.
I applaud SD and Evans for having the blanket policy of explicitly adding a P&P charge to every item you order, but at the same time it pisses me off and is another reason I won't use them.
I work at a mail order sports equipment business - we don't take the money till the goods are available to ship or we know they will be, even in normal times and that goes double now.
The demand for outdoor sports kit is off the scale right now - we are doing a weeks sales in a couple of hours so its not suprising that suppliers and couriers are playing catch up. The last thing we want to be doing is messing people around so we are very clear up front on timescale.
Evans mail order was a joke before Covid so its hardly going to have improved when they are under siege.
Legally they are only meant to take the payment when the goods are shipped?
[Citation needed] I am unaware of any such law or requirement.
Legally you can cancel your order within 14 days after receipt of the goods without requiring a reason. On receiving your cancellation request Evans then has 14 days to refund your order.
You can be liable for return postage but only if Evans make it clear that you are before you make the purchase - ie, this is information which shouldn't be a surprise. However, it's hard to see how they could ask you to pay for return postage when they sent it out after you'd cancelled.
the Evans person you dealt with was rubbish, plenty of good people work there including me.
I don't doubt this to be the case, the same is probably true of many retail outlets, but the day the store manager I'd logged a complaint with wrote to me essentially calling me a liar was the day I vowed never to give them my custom again.
Ah cougar I've worked with many good managers, as you say like most retail places you get good staff and bad staff. The good staff really do try so it's always a bit disheartening to hear about poor interactions.
