still won't work matty
the EU side have been very clear on this. the UK will not be allowed full access to the single market and the customs union unless it stays signed up to everything - ie stays in the EU completely Any "backstop" solution must be NI specific. This is to avoid the UK gaining a competitive advantage by having full access tarriff free to the CU and SM but not having to abide by environmental standards and so on.
They are prepared to allow NI to gain that advantage as it so small and its manufacturing sector is so small to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland.
Any backstop for NI must also exist until a (impossible) technological solution is found and must not be time limited
Mays latest proposals do not come close to meeting the basic principles.
Yes May is being deliberately ambiguous and vague as she tries to square the circle. However she has been told by the EU side she needs to produce concrete proposals by the end of the week.. Vague and ambiguous will not do
With talks deadlocked over the backstop, the British government wants a temporary customs arrangement that would keep the whole of the UK in an EU customs union, but with the right to sign trade deals with other countries.
Varadkar poured cold water on the UK’s proposals. The EU could not accept a situation, he said, where British companies had access to European markets but were able to outcompete European rivals by lowering labour, product or health and safety standards. “To do free trade you have to do fair trade as well,” Varadkar said in a nod to deep concerns on this issue that have been raised by France, the Netherlands and other member states.
Staying in the CU indefinitely won't work for any of the brexiters.
I've been saying this for months. It's the least-worst leave option but no-one wants a 'soft' brexit, not Leave and not Remain.
any proposal has to be acceptable to the EU. NOthing May has proposed is remotely acceptable. Partly because she is in thrall to the DUP and partly because she cannot get an acceptable proposal thru parliament
There is no solution that squares this circle. anything other than remain needs special arrangements for NI. DUP will not stand for that.
**** off with you’re poorly educated jibe kelvin
Your*
Cougar shouldn't you be off making some plan to save your countrymen from the impending doom or do you think correcting grammar will be enough?
IIsee no one is stepping up to the plate here are they and I had hope for you.
Your*
Pwned.
especially as I only really give you lot time in between squeezing a shit out.
What you're writing seems to be created by squeezing a shit out.
It's OK, there will always be a warm welcome overseas for those hardest-hit by Brexit.

calm down folks let Phil lay out his vision/plan for a positive economic Brexit.
Phil the floor (forum) is yours...
Again a polite request.
**** off with you’re poorly educated jibe kelvin eh you wouldn’t stand in front of me in fact anyone I would wager and mouth off so why do it from the comfort of your keyboard.
Oh the ironing
IIsee no one is stepping up to the plate here are they
Sorry, what plate would you like me / us to step up to?
Any answer to @dannyh's question on the previous page? (Or mine for that matter.)
Phil if you put something tangible up for discussion then people are less likley to respond negatively to the "just get on with it" "get behind it" rhetoric.
People on here like detail and they like to debate (argue) about it. They dont like populist statements.

I fear it is too late, the full gammon phase has now started.

standards... If we are going to compete on the world stage without any protection we need to learn how to communicate. Otherwise we just look foolish.

In this hypohetical situation, where we bump into each other, would you have already been swearing your head off, telling people to leave the country, yet still expecting those same people to be nice as pie to you? I've got nothing against you, and I'm looking forward to you making some kind of point in this thread, rather than just having a go at people. Don't expect to keep giving it out and not get a few little fun digs in return… especially if there's a way of doing it and simultaneously make a point relevant to this thread.
Phil, Phil, Phil. You have confused me.
You have stated that you didn't vote on the issue.
You have stated that you are (or you're if you prefer) planning to leave the country (to a non-EU location).
You state that anyone not behind brexit should leave the country.
So...are you against brexit? If not, why are you planning to leave and why should people 'get behind' something you yourself are running away from?
Frankly, it's quite hard to see why you are so angry at people who are complaining about brexit when you, yourself are planning to run from it. Hence my confusion.
Phil, has somebody been sending you PMs? Phil?
Your , you’re is all the effort I’m prepared to put in here I’m afraid .especially as I only really give you lot time in between squeezing a shit out.
In between? I thought that’s what you were actually doing, on here...
What happened to that Dick person that all of a sudden appeared , upset us all then vanished?
dickENS, his name was dickENS
but I can see why you might have misremembered his username
are you calling Phil (a) Dick?
He's referring to "rugbydick" I believe. Still an active user, he's posted elsewhere on STW today (just not here).
don't you mean Philip K Dick?

Some of the Brexidreams could be based on his work

I don't think I've upset anyone. Well, not on this forum anyway...
My only post on here was to ask what I can do about the current situation. I want Brexit stopped!!
nah the troll/spare user was dickens, seems to have moved on, obviously the challenge of coming up with a plausible vision for Brexit has taken up too much of his time
the troll/spare user was dickens
Ah yeah, I remember now. Popped up to chat on this thread for about week, took exception to me (which is understandable) and then hasn't posted in about five weeks.
We flagged him up almost immediately as a potential alt account, but as far as I can tell he's a genuine user.

Having seen plenty of "freelancer" type jobs for spamming/reviewing gigs about I do wonder if (not thinking our EU discussion is revolutionary or a key influencer) if there is some people doing a pro brexit/disruption job out there, most of the stuff is just cut and paste with a little personalisation for the forum it's going into. Or it's just some people who like to hurl abuse around and then run away
Dickens was the only one who to me looked like a deliberate disrupter / pro brexit shill and what a rubbish job he did if he was.
We all know someone like Phil, seems completely genuine to me. His anger will probably shift to other targets in a few years. No doubt he's solid and reliable to his mates, and highly suspicious of the motives of everyone else. Dickens came across as an AstroTurfer, but was probably just very well read in a very narrowly focused way. Garbage in, garbage out.
We all know someone like Phil
So…are you against brexit?
I don't think it should happen but there's 50ks worth of posts from the absolute creme de la crème of complete bellends onothe subject ,it would have been rude not to join in.
I do however think the losers or winners should be made to win arm bands so you can punt one in the face when you see it on the street.
I take it back… I don't think I do know anyone like you. All a bit Clockwork Orange.
Clockwork orange makes sense thou 🙂

Yep, it’s all a bit ‘erratic’ and confrontational. Par for the course, really. Tedious.

Great! Sounds hilarious! Where?
Good point actually.. That's why brexit can be reversed.. The express and mail readers will soon move onto something else to be angry about that instead.
Let the adults get on with unpicking the damage that's already been done and we can all move forward..

Plus a lot of people who voted for it are not actually that passionate about it, they voted as they were given a choice. They didn't vote UKIP before that and they weren't putting any effort into wanting to leave the EU.
If parliament voted against leaving after considering the pros and cons the average brexit voter would just move onto something else to be angry about as you say. The more rabid brexiters would be very upset and go back to how they were pre-referendum. The tories would then start to worry about UKIP again and so on.
Dominic Raaaaab
How many Leave marches were there before the vote?
People really didn’t give that much of a shit.
Now they are too arrogant to admit they were wrong.
