Mates dilema - she applied for a job with a publicly funded organisation and has an exceptional track record in relation to the job description. She wasn't offered as much as an interview - is there any come back - especially as the successful applicant is significantly less qualified and experienced? Can she take it to a higher power?

Did they recieve the application,

where there limited numbers of interviews,

would her face and culture have fitted,

does she carry a grudge, she seems to, and so would be totally unsuitable,

Isnt it nice to offer the job to someone with less expereince so they can use that as a a basis for improving their skil base.

Doses your freind have an inability to ask a question on a forum.

was it an internal or external one?
nothing to stop people hiring the wrong person using a rubbish process as long as they applied that process fairly and it did not contravene laws re sexuality /discrimination etc

In short NO - bit more if it is internal one but ultimately that is just no with feedback.
Sometimes companies advertise even though they have the person in mind perhaps they were just saving your friend from a pointless interview?

sucks... but to my knowledge there's nothing she can do on this one 🙁

EDIT - their loss, everything happens for a reason and other such cliches!

I know of someone who once received so many CVs for a job he was offereing that he split the pile in half without looking and chucked one half in the bin. His reasoning was "Well, you don't want unlucky people working for you"

Most public funded jobs there is a set of objective criteria that applications are marked against to decide who gets an interview

My guess would have been that despite her experience she did not meet or show she met some of the scoring criteria in order to get an interview

Tehre is a techniquie for doing this to ensure youdo get an interview - basically take the person spec and you need to show that you meet every criteria on it

ie person spec " essential - good IT skills / knowledge of databases"
Your application - " I have good IT skills and am skilled in usingand creating databases as can be seen from teh work I did with acme corp when I created a database to ensure the pigs flew on time"

Do this for every single thing no matter how insignificant on the person spec

especially as the successful applicant is significantly less qualified and experienced?

And therefore perhaps cheaper?

Some organisations guarantee an interview for anyone who meets all the essential criteria.

She wasn't offered as much as an interview ...... the successful applicant is significantly less qualified and experienced?

Was the sucessful applicant an internal promotion? A lot of publicly funded organisations are obliged to advertise any 'available' posts, even if they've already got someone in mind. It's happened on occasion within public organisations I've worked for.

EDIT: As already mentioned by junkyard above ^^^^ 🙄

She's pretty laid back normally, never had trouble in any position but this has annoyed her as she is by all accounts ideal, more qualified and with more experience than the successful candidate. It's the not being considered for interview which baffles her more than not being given the job. I will pass on the STW hive perspective.

Take TJs advice - got to get the CV past the HR filter first in bigger organisations, so tick off all the buzzwords.

In a sort of reverse situation, you wouldn't believe the jobs I get asked to apply for by agencies just because I once worked on MVS/AS400/Sys36/delete as appropriate - I'd imagine any HR department is swamped by agencies trying to get that placement fee with any passing reference to the job at hand, keyword search for the win.

I didnt even get one number , so i will get a mate to post it on bikeforum asking for advice.
