We will be in touch
Hi all
I'm involved in a small print company and we want to start email marketing to local businesses this year. I've had a look at MailChimp and the rules regarding who you can and can't send to are pretty stringent.
I can sort of see the need for this but how do you go about 'cold-calling' local businesses who's email address you have got from the local paper or magazine? It seems odd that I could send them a leaflet with no issue but I can't send them an email without their express permission.
Do the laws on MailChimp apply to the US, or the UK as well?
Any advice welcome!
If you're sending an email to a publicly available email address, there's no problem.
If you continue to send emails to that address after they've asked you not to, there is.
As a small business owner myself, I am now so thoroughly fed up of this type of cold calling that they never make it beyond a few words. I understand that times are tight and you need to look for more work, but YOU need to understand that everyone else is in this position too, so you need to find a way to stand out from the crowd. If you really want to connect with local businesses then start going to the local breakfast meetings, etc. Then you can talk to people who actually want to listen. (Trying to be genuinely helpful BTW)
Zilog - It's just to be used part of a advertising strategy, we fully intend to advertise in the conventional way (like local papers), leaflet drops, Google adwords, actual cold-calling etc. But as a small company we can't be everywhere, so emailing may bring in a few extra leads.
I just want to know if I can send an email to a company using an email in a press advertisement or from a business card or comp slip we have collected.
If you're sending an email to a publicly available email address, there's no problem.
Thanks, that's all we are looking to do. And there would be an opt-out option on the email.
