MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
If you activate live Strava segments on your edge 520 and then go for a ride near to those segments marked as a favourites.
When you are near the segments marked as favourite can you see them on the map (a bit like a course overlay)????
edit: it appears that they do according to dcrainmaker
"With all the prep work taken care of we head out for a ride. There’s nothing you need to do to ‘start’ a specific segment, that’ll happen automatically. Interestingly – the segments will display on your map – so it makes it a bit easier to find them."
Hi sorry non topic but do you have the Mks tugs for sale still?
yes
Can you confirm if they are the Allen key adjuster type and not the hex head type maybe send a pic to my mobi

If all good I'd have them
hi, yes allen key type, exactly as the photo in the ad (thats where i bought them from). I can send you a photo this evening if you want.
Just make sure that your dropout thickness is 5mm or less.
I've sent you an email.
Cool I will double check tonight and then all being good pay tonight
Cheers ja
I have an 820 so not exactly the same although I'd imagine it works in a similar way to your 520. I've never noticed segments appearing on the map although I don't often have the map up so it's not something I'd be looking for. When you are near the segments marked as favourite can you see them on the map (a bit like a course overlay)????
When you approach a starred segment the view changes to a screen which shows the segment name, length & grade with a map highlighting that segment only. Possible that is what DCR meant.
Welcome to the forum Fozworth, valuable posting.
re the OP: I can't speak for the 520, but on the 1000 that's what happens - they all show on the map.

I have the 520 and have been playing around with it. You can turn the Strava live function on but by default Strava segments don't pop up on your screen when you ride. What you need to do is 'star' the segment you want to see and then when you come within 150m of the segment start it automatically pops up on the 520 screen. Then it counts you down and says GO as you enter the segment, it then gives you live time progress through the segment so you can see if you are in front or behind the chase time.
It's a great feature but a little painful to have to 'star' every segment you want to pop up. This is less of a problem for local rides you hit often but when you visit somewhere new it’s a bit of a pain.
Now I'm hoping someone has found a way to 'star' every segment by default?

there isn't enough storage on the 520 to do that & it would be constantly pinging off about segments.
it is useful for knowing exactly where segments start and finish though. I bagged a couple of KoM's because the segment finished about 50yds past where most people naturally eased up.
Hmm, didn't realise segment data was stored on the device.
yep.
means it works without a data connection, which the 'live' segments feature on the strava app doesn't.

Too right. I had 4 starred segments and had to remove them so I could shoehorn the map I wanted!. I wish I'd read the specs a bit more closely before buying the 520 - ~ 90Mb of storage for maps is just shoddy, how much would an extra 1gb of memory added to the price, about £2?
its also not that accurate. Frequently the segment time displayed by the 520 was way off the time that strava gave when uploading.
on the 520, if you go to the map screen, and you are near (say 100m away) away from some starred segments can you see all of them on the map?
no, i don't think they showed up on the main map.
you can go through the menus to a specific segment and bring up a map view of it, and it shows your position on the map relative.
edit: haven't got mine anymore so might have changed.
cheers jam bo - that's the info i was after
no, that would be horrific given how many segments there are these days (especially how many of them are "junk" segments!) You'd be constantly hitting cancel! It's a great feature but a little painful to have to 'star' every segment you want to pop up. You dont want to star every segment anyway or you will never be 'racing' the one you actually want, instead it will be beeping away about one going in a different direction rather than the one you ride daily. You need to be smart about it if you have segments starting near each other, for example on my commute I have a road climb that I go up each day but the 520 is always beeping at me that im off segment for the XC trail off the side going the other way that it picks up first.
If you want to do multiple segments at once (say a full climb and part climb) on a device then Wahoo does that. Not that I see the point, it all uploads to strava anyway.
Junk segements aren't really an issue here in Sweden, not that many really where I ride. But see your point and take back my default starred option 😆
Problem I seem to have with some segments is that the start where it says 'go' seem to be well into some segments and the end seems to be 50 yards down the fire road before it says finished. Often I don't know which way down the fire road I need to turn to get to the end! I don't seem to have a problem using strava on the phone, nether do my mates. I know start and finish points aren't necessarily where u think they are but it seems unaccurate to me on the 520. Plenty of times we pop out of a section and everyone stops apart from me who goes 50 yards down the fire road to clock out of it and I end up with slowest time when I was probably fastest down.
Hi gigawhat ive emailed you to say I will have them ,thanks
