Just had an email from eBay in my gmail inbox, the one connected with my eBay account titled: Getting paid on eBay has changed. You must update details by 02 July 2021

Its asking for updated banking details. When I click through it opens a logged in eBay page... the footer that comes with it is dated 2020 not 2021.

If its legit, I guess they will tell me again but the update banking details sounds hookey to me. What do you think?

eBay
Your payments are changing, are you ready?*
eBay now manages the end-to-end selling experience on our marketplace, including payments.
When eBay manages payments:

You get paid directly to your bank account, not your PayPal account.
Regardless of how the buyer pays, payouts are initiated within two business days of order confirmation.

You have no more PayPal payment processing fees.
You pay a final value fee that is automatically deducted from your sales.

Most sellers will pay the same or less than before.**
Learn more here.
You must update your account details by 02 July 2021 to continue selling on eBay.
*Please disregard this message if you have already updated your account details.*
Get started ➔

Your eBay selling fees and expenses will be automatically deducted from your earnings before you get paid. We will charge you an updated final value fee when your item is sold and you won't have to worry about the costs associated with third party payment processing. The final value fee is 12.8% of the total sales amount, plus a fixed fee of £0.30 per order.
The remainder of your earnings will go directly to your bank account, not your PayPal account.
Examples of eBay selling fees include but are not limited to: insertion fees, promoted listings, listing upgrades, and Shop subscription fees.
Find out more by checking our new fees page for private sellers.
Why is the way I’m getting paid on eBay changing?
We are updating the payments experience on eBay to enhance the buying and selling experience on the marketplace. We believe this is an opportunity to deliver a more seamless experience for both buyers and sellers, while offering a greater choice in payment options that include: credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and PayPal Credit.
*As it relates to funds settlement.
**Savings based on annual total sales volumes, and comparisons of (a) prior eBay final value fees plus typical 3rd party payment provider fees, with (b) updated eBay final value fees (without any 3rd party processing fees).

Probably legit, I made the change over to eBay payments a few months ago.

The needing to update your bank details is legit, it's ebay's new managed payments thing, however that sounds like it could well be a bit dodgy.

Go to ebay directly and do it there if needed. If you don't sell stuff then don't bother.

If in doubt, never use the link in the email.

Pretty sure it's legit, I got the same one. As I don't sell on eBay I'm not bothered.

Link took me to a login screen but I imagine if you have been on the site recently you may already be logged in.

I've been getting these emails and ignored them.

But I've just opened the app directly and looked at my notifications, it seems legit, you need to update your details, seems they're not using PayPal anymore.

Its asking for updated banking details. When I click through it opens a logged in eBay page… the footer that comes with it is dated 2020 not 2021.

Never click through from a suspicious email. Go to the site directly.

As above, probably legit - I had the similar email earlier in the week. Just double-check that the URL of the website when you click the link is a valid ebay.co.uk/com one and the padlock icon is present in your URL address bar at the top of your browser.

Also as above, if you go to eBay independently and look in your Messages it should also be there.

Its a legit thing they are doing. They actual ask for your account access details so they can skim them themselves or you can enter manually. They've been doing it for a while so maybe would explain 2020 date.

Whether the email you have is legit is a different matter.
