I bought a wheelset via ebay a couple of days back. The seller included £10 for postage but as he is local to me I told him I'd prefer to collect. He responded that he couldn't because he was in Spain now, so i paid for the auction including the postage. Why he said he was in the UK a week ago is beyond me.

Now he's come back and say he can't post it for anywhere near that price, and he wants to cancel the auction and refund. However in the meantime I've agreed a sale for my wheelset so to do so will leave me knackered.

Do i have a contract or can he pull the auction after it's ended and walk away? He's still in profit even with his higher postage cost so as I see it - it's his problem to solve.

It's actually your problem, because he has the wheels and won't post them to you.
Life is too short, get a refund, neg him and move on.

Save yourself the hastle, get a refund and move on as geoff says. Leave negative feedback, and find another pair which will probably come quicker than from spain. Returning them if the sellers guilded the description a little is also going to be a problem.

I can see that it's my problem too but finding another pair is going to be just as big an issue as spending a bit of time trying to sort these out. I got a good deal, I'll admit it, so I'd be happy to suggest that we share the cost of postage. I just want to know whether he is obligated now to post them or can he walk away. Can ebay do anything about it, if it gets to being a dispute.

He can walk away and, if he doesn;t care what ebay say then there's not much you can do.

I'd be grateful to get my money back and then move on.

Unless you have (or can find) his address, in which case pop round and ask for them?

It's his problem. Report him to ebay. Sellers shouldn't be allowed to get away with this sort of behaviour.

you are in the right they are in the wrong but it is not worth the hassle?
take the refund neg them move on
say you will collect and he can keep the tenner?
tell them about senditnow.com where they can post for a tenner
Insist they honour the contract contact ebay and waste 6 months getting nowhere or at best your money back at worst having to take them to court or loosing your money

your options your choice
Would try to get the items then accept my money back personally ...offer a bit more if you got a good deal?

The wonders of ebay. They charge the seller 14%, so don't expect them to support you!

You're in the right, but potentially stymied. Wheels cost no more than £15 to post. I'd offer him a fiver extra towards costs and try to get the wheels off him.

It's then your perogative to decide on appropriate feedback 😉

Don,t mean to sound -ve but what i do is make sure iv,e got my upgrade in my hands before selling on the old parts.
Not going to help in this but just a word of advice when dealing with ebay lunatics.

He's obviously not someone who places a lot of emphasis on ethics.

Getting a refund is the best thing - the wheels are probably not as good as described.

Then hit him with neg feedback.

I think a few of you haven't read the post. He advertised them (on 21/3) as being in Surrey, on 28/3 he said they're in Spain so he can't allow me to collect, and now on 30/3 he's saying it'll cost him €67 to post, hence he wants to renege on the sale and refund the item cost + £10 postage that I've paid him - despite this total cost still leaving him well in profit overall.

I'd be happy to split the cost of postage (which would cost me another £20 and him £30) but frankly it sounds to me like either he's decided he hasn't got enough for them, or someone else has made him another offer after the auction ended. Both of which would be dishonest hence why I'm not exactly happy to chalk it up to experience.

@ Rob; I haven't sold the old parts yet, I offered them to a mate on the basis that I'd won a new set on ebay, but needed them to arrive first. Then when I discussed the postage collection with him immediately after the auction ended he didn't give any indication he was planning to pull out or that he'd underestimated the cost, just that i couldn't collect. So i paid the auction plus postage fee as per his request.

So now if he pulls out, i have to do the same to my mate, which being a mate he'll accept and understand but it still rankles.

He has a 79* 100% feedback record so no ebay lunatic - or so I thought.

Get a refund, explain to your mate the situation, keep using your existing wheels and start looking for another set.
